Here's a novel thought: ask his mother what song she would like to dance with her son at his wedding to!

Jason,

Like Earnest said, I'm sure you meant "mother" by Lennon, (not 'Woman').

And I agree with you. It would not be a good choice for something dedicated to one's mother. The lyrics are more silly than sincere.

Jim C., and Tony F, and Billy W. all gave good suggestions.

Tony P., ...'Mama tried', and 'Mama don't allow' and 'mamas don't let your babies' ARE NOT good suggestions. Image

If his mom likes country music, you have some good ideas here.

I recently heard a great old recording by Loretta Lynn, called "My angel mother." It's a really sweet song. (It's in waltz time). I can post it here if you'd like.

JOHN LENNON lyrics - "Mother"

Mother, You had Me I never had you
I wanted you but you didn't want me
So I got to tell you
Goodbye , Goodbye

Father, You left me but I never left you
I needed you but you didn't need me
So I just got to tell you
Goodbye , Goodbye

Children, Don't do what I have done
I couldn't walk so I tried to run
So I got to tell you
Goodbye , Goodbye

no, he wants to use Woman. not Mother. that would be an awful song to dance to. LOL

not really looking for country. Mabye an old jazz standard or show tune.. it doesn't have to have the word mother in the title. Just a great song to dedicate to his mom ect..
[This message was edited by Jason Schofield on 23 August 2006 at 08:55 AM.]

Depends what kind of a moment they want to have together: upbeat/fun, nostalgic/teary-eyed, etc...

FYI:

MY MOTHER'S EYES

Back in childhood days,
I can remember loving caresses showered on me.
Mother's eyes would gaze at me so tender,
What was their meaning? Now I can see.

One bright and guiding light,
That taught me wrong from right,
I found in my mother's eyes.
Those baby tales she told,
That road all paved in gold,
I found in my mother's eyes.

Just like a wandering sparrow,
One lonely soul.
I walked the straight and narrow,
To reach my goal.
God's gift sent from above,
A real unselfish love,
I found in my mother's eyes.

When I'm all alone, no one around me,
I find the future dark as can be.
Sorrows I have known, always surround me,
Then through the shadows, I always see.

One bright and guiding light,
That taught me wrong from right,
I found in my mother's eyes.
Those baby tales she told,
That road all paved in gold,
I found in my mother's eyes.

Just like a wandering sparrow,
One lonely soul.
I walked the straight and narrow,
To reach my goal.
God's gift sent from above,
A real unselfish love,
I found in my mother's eyes.

I like Jim Cohen's suggestion for "My Mother's Eyes." I remember being in St. Louis when Wade Ray sang the tune with Speedy West backing him up. The crowd was quiet for that one.
