Got myself another GeorgeBoards steel yesterday, a beautiful D8 made from African Khaya Mahogany. Even though I had high expectations, I was completely knocked out by its beauty when I opened it up.
I'm very happy I decided to go with this one when I was looking for a D8.
Here's a photo of it along with the single-8 I bought from George in December.
Don't know what I'm most proud of, the steels or the photo......

I remember reading in an old post here that someone thought the steels sounded too trebly or something on George's website.
Well, these babies certainly don't. When I got the S8 in December I was actually surprised by how warm and balanced the sound was, and I found it to be a piece of cake to dial in exactly the tone I wanted. A lot more versatile than I expected it to be (from my previous experience with one-pickup guitars).
The new D8 is perhaps even warmer and a little 'darker' sounding to my ears, perhaps because of the added wood, and I like that even more!
You may notice from the pic that it's actually two S8's combined into one D8, so it has individual vol/tone controls and outputs for each neck. I run the necks through an A/B/Y box, and this setup gives me even more flexibility than a regular D8 would have.
As George would have said; "Gotta love it!"
Scott,- as soon as I have the final gadgets for my new studio upgrade hooked up and ready to go, I'll start recording with the purpose of having a finished CD master ready within the year.
I'll post a cut or two on my website as soon as I have something that's 'representable' enough....

It's Plexi. Notice the hula dancers,- there's a little hole under the nut with place for a little light bulb that illuminates the dancers and frets. Haven't installed it yet though.
Here's a closer look at the D8 (okay, I went a little over the top with the glow on this one....)

Donald, I use C6add9 (a-c-e-g-a-c-e-d) and E13 (e-b-d-e-g#-b-c#-e).
I call the C6add9 the 'velvet' tuning (I love that added 9th) while the E13 is the 'grainy' tuning......
Coming from a regular guitar background, and being most familiar with straight major tunings on steels, I find the E13 the easiest tuning to get around but I definitely see the potentional of the C6add9, so that's the one I practice the most. But if I'm thrown into deep water on a jam or something, I'd most likely reach for the E13 neck.
