Bear Family Records has a new CD out with interesting historical recordings of the duo, mostly from the early 50's. Very interesting liner notes, I didn't know that the two were are the parents of guitar genius Lenny Breau.
Kind Regards, Walter

That is correct Walter. They are also the parents of Denny Breau. Although not the accomplished guitarist that Lenny was, Denny is very good on guitar himself and plays regularly in our area. I played on several recording sessions with him years ago and he had plenty of "Lenny Breau" stories for me. |

I have an old "45" of Dick Curless,("9 Lb. Hammer") on the "Event" label out of Westbrook,Me. with a 16 yr. old Lenny playing on it. Hal & Betty were on RCA Victor, back in the 50's,& as I recall,Betty was also a champion yodeler.

There is a photo of Lenny with Hal & Betty at this address.

The fiddler identified in the photo, Stan Winnistock, was still active in this area 3 or 4 years ago. He subbed in a band I was in at the time. I asked him about Lenny, and although Stan was a nice enough guy, he didn't seem interested in talking about that time period. He indicated that he was there when Lenny was in the band, and that was about it.[This message was edited by Bryan Bradfield on 18 February 2006 at 09:48 AM.] |

Betty Cody was an amazing yodeller, imitating instruments such as steel guitar and banjo.
The man who owned Event Records, Al Hawkes, still lives outside of Portland. I had a chance to visit him in -98, such a nice man with a houseful of incredible memorabilia. He still had the acoustic guitar Lenny played on the recordings that can be heard on "Boy Wonder"-cd, a collection of guitar intsrumentals by Lennie when he was just a teenager. |
