Does anyone know who did this song originally. I have it by Wanda Jackson but I know she didn't record it first. My friend wants a copy of the original.

As a dee-jay,back in the 50's,I received this song by Eddy Arnold, I believe he was the 1st one to have it out nationally.

The song was written by Rex Griffin, maybe he had the first recording out (I think he already passed away in the late 40's).

Kind Regards, Walter

Thanks guys. I agree it's a great song and I like to sing it too, but I've always done it like Wanda Jackson. But I'm always way behind. I didn't know Dolly Parton had the song Billy Dale instead of Lilly Dale. So now I can sing that song too. I always thought of it as a guy's song.

Sorry, don't think so. I've been called "Pretty Miss Norma Jean" a lot. I always reply, I didn't get moved over by Miss Dolly and that it isn't always what's up front that counts. Don't get me wrong I like both of them. The ladies I'm talking about Ha Ha

I learned the song off of a 78 my mother had in the late 40s by Ernest Tubb. (I think)
