Doug Jernigan CD

Post by Doug Seven »

Hey,
I'm new to the forum and honored to be a part of it!

A good friend of mine just gave me the Dign' Doug CD "Speed Pickin And Country Ballads".

WOW, I got to listening to it and realized Brent Mason was all over it. I didn't know Mason did anything with anyone but Paul Franklin? hehe.
Any ways, a great CD and I recommend it.

Thanks and Happy New Year to All!
~D

I'll second the recommendation above. At St. Louis Doug Played through the entire album live with a soundtrack and barely missed a note even with all of us staring at his every move. Brent Mason is in orbit on this album, out front in the mix, and doesn't appear to hold back at all. Doug does E9th and C6th tunes including one that he play's on both necks at the same time. All new arrangements and everything from The Beatles, Bill Monroe's "Roanoke" to Satchmo's "It's a Wonderul World". Not your same old steel tunes. This is now my favorite Jernigan album and easily the most polished he's ever released. It can be ordered via email at digindoug@worldnet.att.net .

Brent Mason - Guitar
David Smith - Electric Bass
Ray Van Rotz - Drums
Hoot Hester / Vassar Clements Fiddle
Roger Morris - Piano

Songs:

Eight Days A Week / I'm Just Blue Enough / Riverwood Drive / Bonnie Marie / Arkansas Travelor / I Hope you Dance / Orange Blossum Special / You Are My Treasure / Roanoke / Slide Off Off Your Satin Sheets / It's A Wonderful World / Amanda's Serenade

All the pickers on that CD are top notch session guys. Doug is an outstanding picker and he surrounded himself with the same on that CD.

Welcome aboard, Doug! Brent Mason also played on Doug Jernigan's "Country Jazz Steel Guitar" CD--the one with "Summertime" on it. Doug said that Brent had a lot to do with the arranging on that album. It is not a country album. It is one of my favorites.

Hey Doug..thats some kinda great 'pickin' there on the telecaster..looking down at the bottom of the video, it appears you are using a straight pick..How about posting another of your numbers on here, for folk that appreciate that kind of good playing..

All Doug's cd's are topshelf picking.
He is that rare jazz head who can do
a ballad as warm and smooth as
mom's Thanksgiving gravy and candied yams.

Come on down to Dallas, and let me know if you can make it for sure. I would enjoy an opportunity to meet you and chat about Tele's and old vintage Fender amps (restoring them is my hobby!)
