This is Country??? Gag-Wretch-Vomit Content...
So the teevee says that there is gonna be an "Outlaw Show" on CMY. Featuring Merle, Toby Keith, Billy Joe, D.A. Coe and a bunch of others...
Instead it is a bunch of doofus's, with some guy named Kid Rock acting especially obnoxious. Guy's only talent is giving the finger. Then some bald fat guy with a stupid flat black hat came on...
There were pedal steels onstage, one guy playing a metal dobro with his tongue and some of the ugliest human beings on the planet posing with guitars. None of them could play -- period.
So this is Country music 2006? Heaven help us all... I don't mind trash, heck, I've done my time and owned the leisure suit, but you should at least be able to pick, and not act stupid. Merle was an outlaw I guess, Jesse and Waylon didn't act stupid or give their audience the finger...
I posted earlier this week about seeing Paul play on a wonderful show on the GOO. I cannot believe that he has to share the same stage -- let alone the same air -- with this trailer-park trash. Am I getting so old that the good old days were a few days ago?
I won't even go into the commercial about the prostitute in her undies and the dead Senator underneath her in bed ...
Sorry, but if that is what is hot in Nashville, count me out. I think I just tested positive for alt. country... -L-
This is a rant, of which about 80% is hot air and a wink and a nudge... and YMMV...:- ) and I've just edited it for the speling mustakes...
[This message was edited by Tom Quinn on 14 December 2005 at 07:01 AM.]

I wrote this post last night, after a Christmas party, so please cut me a little slack -- it wasn't meant as harsh as it might sound... still, is this what C&W is these days? :-0
Yeah, you haven't seen that commercial? Some flabby blond in her underwear straddling an old guy on a motel bed. The old guy is still in his suit, and is lights out. She's yelling at him,"Wake up Senator!!!"... I forgot what it is for. Kinda gross and also a little bit funny. Not something you would have seen on the boob tube -- oops there's a slip... -LLL- - when I was younger.
[This message was edited by Tom Quinn on 14 December 2005 at 09:33 AM.]

I remember being on tour at 16, playing to some pretty rowdy crowds... and we seriously considered whether playing those power chords with index and ring finger looked like we were giving them the finger...
Ah, being 16 again...

JC was a living legend who couldn't get airplay, yet was winning Grammies and critical acclaim...I don't blame him for giving N'ville powers that bethe bird. The ad's message, placed directly above Cash's middle finger: "American Recordings and Johnny Cash would like to acknowledge the Nashville music establishment and country radio for your support."
Kid Rock on the other hand gets entirely too much airplay, and is only a "legend in his own mind" IMO, and is seemingly supported by whatever passes for the N'ville powers that be nowadays... what he has to flip anyone the bird about is beyond my reckoning
oh well...
I'm gonna go listen to some Buck Owens now. Or some Cash...

I kinda liked the Toby and Merle portions of the show..and I'm not really a Toby fan either..
I didn't bother to watch the other parts...
I'm like the others, mesmerized by the Senator and the under the Bed thing though..
Now thats real TV !
[This message was edited by Tony Prior on 15 December 2005 at 05:01 AM.]

Country music is on her death bed at this moment in time,The [MU-SICK] industry is using these punks in their dirty tank tops, triwling mike stands,X-rated vidios, and attempting to incorporate rap crap into country music,is rapidly finishing her off. There are millions of brained washed kids out there that really think that the likes of Kenny Chesney,Big and Rich,Mont.Gentry,or Cowboy Troy, are actually playing country music.Sad but true!!!!!

We can certainly do that. However, I hope you won't mind if some people don't want to completely give up on the "American culture" (yes, sometimes it sounds like an oxymoron, but it really is not) without a fight. This post has an obvious solution. Go to the outlet behind your TV and pull the plug.
Quite honestly, it doesn't bother me that there's garbage on TV and radio. There always has been. What bothers me is that it has become so uniform and so obviously controlled.
I personally think the way to fix this is to open up the airwaves to pretty much whomever wants them. The phrase is "free market competition". Right now, we have an oligopoly in the broadcast entertainment business - most of the stations concentrated in far too few hands. But these corporations don't own the airwaves - we do. We've had this discussion before, but I get very tired of people telling me to just concede the culture to a small number of broadcast companies who monopolize the industry and find it easier to market to the lowest common denominator.
End of rant.

For all of you who want to see Country Music the way it used to be, here is one solution. Figure out a way to subscribe to the RFD channel and buy a T-VO (sp) so you can record all the music shows. Every week you get Porter Wagner, Wilburn Bros, Pop Goes the Country, Midwest Country, Branson Jam, Nashville on the Road, and various other country, gospel, and bluegrass shows. Just a thought. Dan
