Ed Bickert has been playing a Telecaster for decades. What a soulful player! He is truly a Canadian treasure.

I agree this "New" country is a bunch of C$#@, but I don't believe it's the brand of guitar that makes it that way..

I'm about as country as a turnip and I play a Tele, Gibson L-6S, and some times I drag out that $200 Peavey [Tele] and play it.. Of course don't forget my Emmons!!!

I can play Santana's Black Magic Woman, and it still sounds "Country", so I guess it's a persons Feelings and Soul in the music that makes it what it is....I'm just tired of Nashville tryin to tell me this new crap is country!!

I saw a new Rock group playing on late night tv a few days ago. They had two Teles. Saw another new Rock band on tv had one Tele. I'm thinking this must be the hip guitar these days.

I would say the current humbucking sound of new Country has more of a 70s Prog Rock/80s hair band sound. I hear no true Southern Rock sounds at all. Southern Rockers from the 70s were funky, like 60s R&B. That sound ended with the 80s.

Well, maybe if older generations had put more time into instilling good values into their kids and grandkids, our society wouldn't be swept up in this rabidly over-consumptive culture that predominates today. If they weren't so easily duped into the "buy, spend, be happy" lie, they wouldn't be spending their money on "bigger, better, more beautiful" stars--people who don't warrant the harsh words you guys give them, but also don't deserve their overblown popularity (I refer you to Brad Paisley's "Celebrity" for more on that matter Image).

"You reap what you sow," "You sleep in the bed that you make," "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone," "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem," yadda, yadda, yadda...

This holiday season, buy an instrument for your son/daughter/grandson/granddaughter instead of an iPod.
[This message was edited by Chris Lasher on 11 October 2005 at 05:13 PM.]

Good advice.

As a guitar teacher I notice some positive trends though,- I have more young teenage students now than ever before, especially girls.
One interesting difference between the 14-18 year old boys and the girls at the similar age, is that the boys are more interested in all the "guitar hero" BS, while the girls seems to be more interested in music in general, and also learn faster. I don't know if this is an indication of general differences between the genders, but it's interesting to notice all the same.....

I'll give up my tele when they pry it from my cold dead fingers. You know what I noticed the other day is the fiddle has relaced some of the rock style guitar solos. Now I'm not talking about country fiddling I mean a minor pentatonic guitar type solo played on the fiddle.

Mark, what is the name of Patty's latest CD. I thought I was buying it the other day and it is pretty much all bluegrass. It's good, but not what I expected. I need the STEEL!

Ken, the new one is called "Dreamin' My Dreams"

The title track is a song that Waylon covered many Moons ago (sorry about the steel guitarist pun-couldn't help myself).
Patty does a great job on that song.

The steel player is Russ Pahl-tasty stuff! Is Russ a Forum member?

Rob Ickes on dobro. Neck and neck IMO with Jerry Douglas as the best in the business.

The album you bought came out in 2001 I believe.
