I heard on a message that Stuart Hamblin who wrote "This Old House" and "It Is No Secret What God Can Do" started something called the "Cowboy Church" many years ago, is this the same Cowboy Church I hear of recently |

Jim...the short answer is no. The confusion happens because Stuart had a radio show called the Cowboy Church of the air.Stuart was truly a character and I had the honor of doing several dates with him...we'd meet up again from time to time at Los Alamitos, but that's another story.
The Cowboy Churches that are springing up across the country are actual churches that cater to the "cowboy" type, where you're comfortable in your Wranglers, boots, and hat, except at prayer time...then the hat comes off. I might add here, that a lot of churches billing themselves as "cowboy churches" are just getting in on the band wagon. Some of those pastors wouldn't know which end of the horse to kiss.
Try to find a website for Coy Huffman...might be under 'rodeo ministries' and then follow the links. This will give you a better insight to what's happening now. Hope this clears it up for you. |

My old pickin' buddy from Montana, Steve Bivins, started his cowboy church in Nashville about 1990, I believe.
