Tony, Johnny Bond had it out and then Jim Varney had it out when the Beverly Hillbillies was remade. Could have been others. Ray |

Tony,
It could have been Charlie Ryan, who wrote and recorded the song and scored a couple of times with it.
It was my plasure to play your recording of Billy Bowman's "Midnight In Amarillo" on my "Swingin' West" show this afternoon. Had a couple of Internet listeners call from Texas that really enjoyed it.

I'm afraid I'll have to go with Ron's recomendation...Bill Kirchen's is by FAR the be best version of the song. |

The first version came from Tiny Hill as "Hot Rod Race", went to #7 in the charts in 1951, Charlie Ryan (who is credited as composer with W.S. Stevenson) released his version as "Charlie Ryan & The Timberline Riders" in 1955, but it didn't chart until 1960, when it went to #14.
Kind Regards, Walter
