Sacred Steel DVD
The Sacred Steel documentary video is now on DVD. It's available through all normal record outlets, www.arhoolie.com, and I have a few to sell.
For those not familiar with the video, it's 55 minues, professional broadcast quality. Artists presented include Willie Eason, Henry Nelson, Aubrey Ghent, the Campbell Brothers, Calvin Cooke, Ted Beard, Glenn Lee and Robert Randolph.
My price is $20 postpaid in the US.

Even if there were no music, Bob's documentary is a well crafted and ultimately moving look at the sacred steel story - a uniquely American tale of the unlikely intersection between a traditional Hawaiian instrument and the African American church community. As a bonus, it includes some hair-raisingly great steel playing. At this price, it's a no-brainer. Buy it. You'll be very glad you did.
One of my favorite videos of all time. Everyone (musician and non-musician alike) I've shown it to has really liked it too. Like Andy said, it's a must have.
Another wonderful documentary I viewed a few nights ago that I highly recommend is called "Genghis Blues". It documents the story of Paul Pena, a blind San Francisco based blues singer, who discovered Tuvan "throat singing" and traveled to Tuva (adjacent to Upper Mongolia)to compete in a competition there. This is one soulful movie, and I urge everyone to seek it out.

Anyone know if this DVD will play on a 'European' zone player? I suspect the only difference will be that there's no subtexts as on 'EU-zone' DVD's, but that's no problem.
Any other considerations or can I just order one from Arhoolie?

Thanks Andy and Bill. Your checks are in the mail.
Steiner, I just checked with Arhoolie and they say the DVD should play on your European player.
It might be easier for you to order by credit card through Arhoolie than to send me a money order for US dollars.
Bill, I've been meaning to get Ghengis Blues. Others have recommended it highly too.
Best,
Bob

Don't miss this one. I popped this one in the bus VCR and my bandmates were going "oh, not more steel crap!"... five minutes later they were siting there with their mouths hanging open. Then they'd ask to see it again next day.Everybody loves this great video!

Got my copy today and all I can say is that I'm lost for words. Even in my native Norwegian.......
To those of you who still hasn't ordered one,- just do it! You won't regret it.

Is the DVD different than the video? ie. does it have 'bonus material'. I've got the VHS video that came out a couple years ago.

Hi Chris,
There is no extra "bonus" material on the DVD version.
There is a menu with several index points which enables you to go directly to your favorite parts. The video and audio quality are a little better than the VHS version.
Best,

I have a once viewed DVD of Sacred Steel in new condition, original package, with liner notes, etc. that I would swap even for a CD of Cindy Cashdollars "Slide Show" or Robby Turners "Man of Steel" in the same condition. If interested please e-mail me at: twohackers@hotmail.com and I will pop it in the mail.
