Chick Singer's Success on CBS

I'll bet most of us haven't been watching the CBS Reality Show "Rock Star- INXS". I wouldn't have been either, if it were not for our friend, Suzie McNeil.

The show is about finding a new lead singer for the rock band INXS. They'd auditioned thousands, and the finalists live together while the cameras roll, and they compete for the prize.

Suzie is now in the the final 10!

I don't like music contests, but I'm thrilled Suzie made it so far. She's a really good person, appreciates all styles of music. even though her regular gig is in an ABBA tribute

She's now sequestered in an LA Mansion while they're in competition.

I saw an ABBA tribute show on TV two or three years ago and it was awsome! When I first turned it on, I thought it was an old taped concert of the real ABBA, then I found out when it was over that it was a tribute group. They were excellent. I wonder if it was the same group that Susie's in?

Probably, but I haven't seen it. It's called "Abba Mania".
They play all over the US and Canada, sometimes at very large venues.

I love rock and roll, so I've been watching the show. Since they allow professionals, the level of talent is a lot better than American Idol, and none of those awful "Be Free to Find Yourself and Soar" kind of ballads. And, the house band is absolutely phenomenal - it's kind of funny watching the members of INXS watching a band and singers play their own songs way, way better than they ever did themselves.

It's very clever on the part of INXS too, how else could some old fat guys with a few 80's hits possibly get national TV exposure every week for months? They'll be touring arenas again, instead of those "Ernie's Bar and Grill" gigs that old rockers who spent all their money often resort to.

I hope she does well, Joey. I don't like very much rock and roll, but I really liked Abba, and I've seen the tribute, it's very good. Nice pic.

Yes Bob, I was just thinking that.

Tonight is an important night on the show. She has made a new arrangement to the song "Losing My Religion". The band suggested she keep it straight, but she's decided to be creative.

This could be good, or bad.

She's showing creativity, instead of taking the easy way. That's good. I hope that's what they are looking for.

Congrats on your pal, Joey. I don't know much about INXS, except their original lead singer choked himself to death, doing something weird (I doubt if MARTY even though of that one!!!), but I wonder if they'll put a chick out front? She's got a great voice, and stage presence. Did she learn that from you?
BTW, jus to stir the soup a little, I noticed logos last night: Fender guitars and basses, Gibson guitars, Marshall amps, Gallien-Krueger bass amps, Pearl drums---everything but steel guitars...

I've never been an INXS fan, but I have learned that their original singer was legendary, in a Jim Morrison sort of way.

His cult like status might prove good for Suzie's chances because any male singer will be compared to the original, and never measure up. A female would be a new direction, and not have to live in his shadow.

BTW, the coroners report is online and dismisses the rumors of "auto-erotism" in the hanging death.

I heard the first place contestant gets to tour with INXS for one year. The second place contestant has to do it for 3.

But I don't envy anybody being sentenced to that musical purgatory. When was their last hit? 20 years ago?

I watched the show last night and Suzie did an outstanding job! She performed Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" just about as good as it could be done! I always liked that tune and Suzie really nailed it! I think that INXS should pick both a male and a female singer and hire them both! My picks would be Suzie and Marty....JH in Va.

Good thought Jerry. I think that would really change the band, which is a good thing. They need to get out from the under the shadow of their original vocalist.

I started watching this show because of my personal connection, but now I find myself drawn to it on on many levels.

You can hear Suzie singing some acoustic country demos on my friend Neil Cotton's Sound Click Page. "Lifes A Dance" is a neat fun tune.

Neil is a prolific singer/songwritter that I often gig with. The songs posted here are rough demos with very little production value.

It's not exactly "Bohemian Rhapsody", but as I said in my opening post, Suzie has an deep appreciation for all forms of music.
