I liked this line the best:
"THE ACCURACY OF THIS SETUP IS NOT GUARANTEED."
I still believe that the biggest contribution to his sound was the man himself.

That's pretty funny. More than the accuracy of the effect setup should be listed in their disclaimer. The site lists the guitars as "reverse headstock" models and links to a picture of a guitar that actually is just a reverse headstock.
If they were truly guitar "geeks" they would know that Jimi used a standard strat that he turned upside down and reversed the strings so he could play left handed...

He could actually play either way. However he played a right handed Strat flipped over to play left with the strings in a standard configuration (low on top). I just got back from the Experience Music Project in Seattle where they actually have some of Jimi's stuff. They have his Univibe, the original Octavia and Wah's along with the Woodstock equipment from the whole band. Also various costumes, smashed guitar remnants, lyrics etc. Not on display right now is Clapton's Brownie Strat which I saw on a previous visit.
There is a Bob Dylan Exhibit on right now.

I came across one of these on eBay, and found it so hilariously kitchy that I just had to have one...  The guitar and effects are surprisingly well replicated though.

Many people thought that the reverse strung guitar may have been part of the unique sound, as that puts the bridge pickup slanted in an opposite direction than intended. Also, the tremolo arm was then on top.
It's the stuff legends are made of.

Hendrix could've played a left-handed Squier Strat and he still would've sounded like himself. It ain't the axe.
A few weeks ago, a young hot-shot jazz player told me that he had just bought an L5 "because I wanted to sound like Wes Montgomery". I chuckled, then I realized he wasn't laughing. |
