Les Paul to release 5 new CDs soon!

Post by Ron Whitfield »

...and the first one available is his first 'rock' effort. Heard a bit on NPR the other morning along with a short interview, both were great.

After doing a google search, I can't believe there is no TAB for anything by Les!?!

Burr, they aren't out yet, but soon.

To hear the interview, go to www.npr.org
The front page still has it near the bottom, just click it.
Later, to find it, just type Les Paul in the 'search' box, and you'll get that and more on good ol' Les.
Still playing great at 90!

Can anyone recommend a good jazz album of his that I should pick up? I didn't really care too much for the stuff he did with Mary Ford and prefer straight ahead jazz.

After his recording heydays with Mary, his solo output was quite meager it seems. I too don't care much for his 'popular' stuff and much prefer his slower, low profile material that he's been doing for decades now.
Much tastier to me.

If you can find it, his appearance on Marian McPartland's radio show a few years back was terrific. A nice mix of talk and playing between the two.

He's usually lurking in the background during most any 'The Joey Reynolds Show' radio program, and sometimes chimes in with his typically interesting tidbits.

I got to ask Les about Paul Bigsby once on Larry King's old radio show, and all he sed was "he stole my vibrato".

Folks,
I had the pleasure of seeing Les Paul live at his Iridium club in NY last week, very tasty trad jazz and he is still a class guitar player even though his hands look fairly restricted these days He mentioned his new CD's, one in each of 5 different musical genres if I remember correctly,

Chris,

Have you heard the "Guitar Monsters" double LP? Chet Atkins and Les Paul. impossible to describe with words! There's a nice mix of genres and tempos, and if I'm not mistaken, a little steel here and there as well.

Thanks, no, I haven't heard it, I'll see if I can dig it up somewhere. I've always enjoyed Chet Atkins' pickin', so I can't go wrong now can I?

There's another album, which I think precedes Guitar Monsters, called Chester and Lester, same lineup. Good stuff!
