I sat and watched some of the NSTAR marathon over the weekend and my thoughts were confirmed..

Phil Vasser, who actually is a great singer, this lineup of judges , where do they come from ? The Anastasia gal, who the heck is she, ccan she sing, does she sing? does she work at Wallmart the rest of the week ?

The Brett Poison guy..if his arms and Tatooes got any bigger he would be on PPV as a Wrestler. They keep introducing him with his "TOP #1 Country Hit Single"..

I like Phil but he's pretty redundant, Everyone is great, he loves them all..Thats pretty safe as a judge I guess...

now for my full faced analysis..

The contestants were all singing with both Jamie O'Neal and Phil Vasser..both of whom I believe are excellent singers, they can both really rip..

there was not 1, and I mean not 1 of the 5 final contestants on the stage that came within a Country mile of the ability of Phil or Jamie..and I think thats what this show is supposed to be about, isn't ?

When I watched that "ALL TOGETHER" peformance I couldn't help but think to myself..one of them is supposed to be close to the level of the 2 who are already NVILLE Stars...and the lable execs are probably more criticle than I am..ya think ?

And of course the next show featured the Wrestler singing his #1 Country Hit song..

I think the radio's in our house are all broken..we've never heard of him or any of his songs before this NVILLE Star show..

Jayron, fine singer and seemed like a good guy too..his demise had nothing to do with the gal judge in my view. I think she was responding to all of the back stage moments that they filmed . Don't get me wrong, we are of strong faith here at home but I couldn't connect him with being a Worship Leader and a Country Singer at the same time either..being of strong faith , leading Worship singing on Sundays and singing " I Love this Bar " on Friday nights doesnt fit in my book either..make no mistake, it is a conflict....A record lable is NOT going to come out of the gate with a limited
song list for CD...

We have all played for years with musicians who drink , smoke and act like drunken Sailors on Fri and Sat nights, but on Sundays they put on there best duds and play music in Church..personally for me I don't care what they do but from the faith point of view that is a conflict...and I'm not infering that Jayron is a drunken Sailor ! I think the Gal Judge looked at the senario and called it as she saw it...I didn't hear her say anything that was off base or offensive to Jayron...She said she sees him on the bill with Amy Grant..now how is that an insult ? She aligned him with one of the most famous/popular singers in the nation...

Tony,

If I am not mistaken - Anastasia (sp?) is Tony Brown's wife. I'm not sure what qualification that is, but that is the only thing I have heard about her. Maybe she was in the "biz" before meeting and marrying Tony.

Just FYI,

Thanks David! I wondered about her. I have to say the Judges make me Image

I hear Brad Cotter is in rehab, so that's probably why we don't hear him, yet?? Brad does have talent, hopefully he'll get straighten out. Image

Buddy Jewel's new cd goes on sale tomorrow. He's a true talent that came out of Nashville Star.
American Idol's, Josh Grayson is another well deserved talent. So good things do come out of these shows! Image

Last years runner up, George Canyon, is doing pretty well up here in Canada. I remember him saying in an interview even before the final results last year that it can be an advantage to to place second in that competition. You basically get all the exposure the winner gets but you're free to entertain contract offers from all comers rather than being tied into the contract you get as winner. He seems to have pulled a long way ahead of Brad Cotter now at least.

While I do enjoy Phil Vasser's songwriting, I have no ideal why Bret Michaels is qualified to judge a singing contest for "country" singers. Just because he sung "Every Rose Has It's Thorn"???

That being said, my understanding is that the three judges have absolutely no bearing on the outcome of the contest. Right? People vote with their cell phones. So, the judges are there for entertainment sake ONLY. Still, if I see Bret Michaels play the air drums one more time, I'm going to puke. He's flat out embarrassing.

I knew the whole NVStar thing was bogus when the auditions happened for the first one. They had a big audition down in Fresno and I knew several people who were auditioning, so I went down for moral support. The audition was judged by the local ClearChannel radio DJs, who I know. These people, IMO have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE, what it takes to be a singer or entertainer, much less a country singer.

Of course, the best singers didn't even win the local contest. One guy in particular is/would be a better "star"/singer than anyone I've seen on that show, save maybe Buddy Jewel.

If I remember, I'll post an mp3 and let you guys decide.
