I recently recieved two CD's by Bill Stafford: Going Home and A New Look at Some of My Favorites.

Both albums are just fantastic but I particularly love the Going Home CD in that it is a solo Pedal Steel album with no overdubbing or effects. Just pure emotional steel playing. In fact I have it playing right now.

What a gorgeous sounding album.

I agree completely. He didn't get the nickname "Mr. Smooth" by accident. Bill is not only a wonderful player, but a great human being besides. I am proud to call him friend.

Yep, he plays all kinds of music, but has the best jazz tone I have ever heard. And what he does with that 14-string Excell is amazing.

Ditto, ditto, ditto! Bill's playing is an absolute pleasure to listen to. His "Going Home" CD is proof positive that steel guitar is 100% capable of standing on its own, solo, unaccompanied by any other instruments. (At least when Bill's playing it! No overdubs on "Going Home," either...)

You gentlemen nailed it. Bill is a fine player as well as a fine person. I'm proud to call him my friend and brother steel player.

Yep, Bill Stafford is a gentleman, he took time to explain his guitar to me at Dallas, and answer many dumb questions I put to him.

His playing just knocked me out.

So pleased to have met him.

Bill is something else. A great player and a great guy as well.

We are lucky to have him among us.

Gonna make ya’ll jealous . . .

My partner and I had a small booth at the Dallas (TSGA) show in March.
We had the very good fortune of meeting Bill Stafford early on the first morning we were there. What a nice guy! The boy next door.

He brought his rig (and Ed Clark) to our booth and played through our gear a few times over the weekend. We hit it off and made friends. Before you knew it, he played through our gear on the “big” stage (where the the big boys play!).

Yes, that’s huge, but what i came away with was sitting two feet in front of him for probably four of five total hours at the booth watching him play (14-string Excell).
Mmmm, Mmmm, Mmmm!

I’m sure he got tired of seeing my mouth hang open.

Jealous yet?
