I really liked this year's award show. I wasn't real crazy about Chris Rock because he made a crappy remark about Jude Law which didn't sit well with Sean Penn who probably cleaned his clock right after the show....
I was thrilled to see Jamie win for RAY.
I also wish award shows would leave politics out. I want to be entertained, not bogged down with the probs of the world. What did y'all think of the show?

I didn't find Chris funny at all. Why can't they leave politics out of it?
We turned it to my favorite show, Law & Order!

Actually I thought Chris Rocks opening monologue was the funnestest thing I have ever seen on the Academy Awards. My wife and kids were laughing so hard tears were rolling down my face. I especially liked the line about working at the Gap and and being short in the cash register by 32 trillion dollars.
If I had to sit through one more of those excruciating Billy Crystal movie parady openings, I'd put my foot through the screen.

I didn't find Chris Rock the least bit funny. He seemed to be trying too hard.
It's great that Foxx won with his fine portrayal of Ray Charles - it almost feels like Ray himself somehow got the Oscar, too.
I was disappointed that there wasn't more of an acknowledgement made of the passing of Marlon Brando, but I suppose the Academy doesn't feel kindly disposed towards him after all his disrespectful 'gestures' over the years.
I'm going to be on that stage in a week's time - I wonder if mine will be the first Emmons to appear at the Kodak?

I never watch the "Mutual Admiration Society" events. They have about 6 or more a year now, don't they?
I just wanted to say that I've seen "Ray" and enjoyed it. I guess the sound track has been tearing up the charts for awhile now too.

I watched a little bit of the awards. I did happen to catch the part where Yo Yo Ma was playing his Cello while they were showing the people who had passed away in 2004. Yo Yo Ma is an AMAZING musician and truely a gift to watch him play. The Cello is one of those instruments that I could listen to all day long. Great tonal quality from that instrument.
Anyone else see the Yo Yo Ma performance?

Yo Yo Ma is an incredibly soulful musician. I caught that segment. His performance was beautiful.
I also enjoyed seeing Carlos Santana. |

I don't watch ANY "awards" shows. They're all "plastic".

This guy is GREAT!! I have an album of him,w/ Stephane Grappelli,("Anything Goes")
FANTASTIC!!
BTW,I think Jamie CERTAINLY deserved some kind of award for his portrayal of "Ray".

| I stayed for the whole nine yards. Wonder why Chris felt he had to yell? That's all he did at the beginning. That kinda got on my nerves. Yo Yo Ma was fabulous. I was quite amazed at Antonio Banderas and Santana. Very entertaining, but then I love Hispanic music. |

I thought they just shot over the Carson tribute. Robin Williams is funny,Chris Rock who can't act and to me is as funny as a case of Diarea,thinking refering to our presidents budget as comedy shows us how fast the Hollywoodies forget 9-11. I did watch the whole show,Bring back Billy Crystal. He knows how to make a boring evening funny. If Hollywiedos donated 10 percent of what they paid the designers to put them in costumes to the Tsunami relief effort and showed up in jeans now that would be a tidy sum.

They don't pay the designers, the designers are falling all over themselves to get them to wear their stuff. It's all about marketing.

Okay, I'm not a political person, and I won't post any more on this topic: I was at ground zero on 9/11 and I lost a lot of friends, neighbors, and a teacher at my daughter's school. One of my friends is a fireman. He lost a lot of people. I played a memorial concert the week after and led 5,000 people in This Land is Your Land. You could see the billows of smoke from behind me. I certainly have not forgotten 9/11. But I found Chris Rock's comments about the budget hysterical. DO NOT connect the tragedy of 9/11 with what that yuts in the white house decides to do.

| Chris Rock is the type of commedian that you either love him, or hate him. Personally, I think he's a funny guy...his jokes and satires are right in line with our political and social times. But, then again, I like his type of humor; so if someone doesn't like those kind of jokes they won't get it or appreciate it no matter what. I didn't watch the academy awards, so really can't comment on his specific performance there. But due to his popularity, he's just as good of choice as anyone to have a segment...it all boils down to whether or not you like his type of humor. | Bill, I'm sorry about the loss of your friends and neighbors. What I took issue with was your comment about the "Hollywoodies". I work in the industry as do most of my friends, and I felt that your comment impugned our patriotism. I hear ya Bobbe. b0b did us all a favor and moved OTB to it's own world. Even when I "won" a debate it was winning in the context of Bobby Bare's tune called "The Winner".
