For sure. His show was after Jody Carvers time but I wonder if anyone here ever played with a guest?

For sure. His show was after Jody Carvers time ..not so Janice. I met Johhny Carson a few times when I did a skit with a Hawaiian group whereas Johnny and Ed McMahon wore hula skirts. Ed Shaughnessy the great drummer got me a few shots on that show where I did a solo with Doc Severinson. Doc loved steel guitar.

How old do you think I am anyhow

I had a short stint with Roger Miller in 1973 and one of the things I did with Roger was do the Tonight Show. I never cashed the check. Buddy Emmons played bass and Marty Alred was the drummer and road manager. I did not get to meet Johnny, he was in and out before I had the opportunity to meet him.

I saw on the news that Johnny was a smoker and this probably contributed to his problem. I hope that they will publicize this and maybe some of our young people will take heed. He was an awesome entertainer; kept me up a lot. Kicking the tobacco habit was the hardest thing I ever did; it stayed in the back of my mind for years, to me the danger is always there (thirty six years ago).

Apologys Mr Carver. I mainly think of your work with Vaughn Monroe and Arther Godfry.

When Johnny Carson retired from the Tonight Show, it was the end of an era. I liked the big band. I liked the suits and ties (not on me though). I like the elegance of those times that are gone most probably forever.

Before him, Jack Paar and Steve Allen. Johnny Carson was the last of that genre.

Leno & Letterman can't hold a candle to those guys.

RIP Johnny

People ask me how old I am...I am proud to tell people of my age.because in my time of life I witnessed the greatest era of a time gone by. As my buddy Howard posted, there was an elegance of respect and the talent on Carsons show was a heck of a lot better than what I see on Leno's show and Dave Lettermans show. There was an old song I learned as a young boy and it holds true to me now although when I was young meant little to me.

The Title is "I'd Give A Million Tomorrows For Just One Yesterday". And my friends that I would do in a heartbeat. I am proud of my age and the life I had and the wonderful memories of those days and most of all my beautiful woman who was my wife and best friend.

You take a right turn at the " Slawson Underpass" and rest in peace Johnny. We will miss you. PS Janet, Please dont refer to me as "Mr.Carver" You make me feel OLD

Speaking of Johnny and smoking, he once had an unknown singer on who was pretty full of himself. After the song Johnny was talking to him and lit a smoke. The singer said "please do not smoke in my presence". Carson looked surprized, then replied "Please do not sing in my presence". The audience broke up and the singer dissappeared. I thought it was priceless. I miss those shows.

Tonight on Larry King there was a shot of Doc Severson going and sitting behind a black Emmons push/pull. I wonder whose it was?

I opened my ride tonight on one of our 1-6-2-5 songs with the Carson theme. I really wanted it to be strong but I had only worked it up this afternoon and I pretty much buried it in mush. Really disappointing but the thought was there.
I'm not so much a fan of his as an appreciator of what he represented to the era--an American original.

Johnny was indeed a "Class Act". He had the ability to "Milk" any situation on his show into something funny, regardless of what it was.
Does anyone remember the Johnny Carson line of Men's Clothing?

Yes I remember Johnny's clothing line, I have two sport coats and a pair of trousers for each. Johnny admired Jack Benny's dead pan style and his abilty to miik an audience came from Jack Bennys style.

Whenever someone famous passes everyone says nice things about the deceased,I wonder what they will say about me. I'm not famous but I could have been a contender

I grew up watching Johnny Carson and dreamt of the day I'd make it to a famous band that would appear on his show. I never made it onto his show but that's life.

Even though I know it's going to happen to all of us sooner or later I hate hearing he's gone. He truly was one of a kind who will never be replaced, as was Jack Benny, Jackie Gleason, George Burns and so many others, but these are a few of my favorites who I miss very much.

Jody, we've never met or even emailed, in fact I get the impression sometimes that you don't particularly like me very much and that's fine, sometimes I don't like myself too much either... ... I no doubt posted something rude to someone and deserve it, sometimes my emotions get the best of me. With all you've gone through, you've never let that happen, one more example of your super class.....and I don't mean to be morbid here, but I'll be the first to say (unless someone beats me to posting) that you don't have to wonder what will be said about you when the time comes you have to leave us all. You have seen the admiration, respect and real love we have for you in this forum and in person at the shows. You are an example of something very rare and special. So many have great things said about them after they're gone despite they seemed endlessly criticized during their lifetimes. How many people have had the great respect and admiration which you command while yet still living? Not many. This should tell you something. Don't be in a hurry to go anwhere, eh? You mean more than you know to all of us.

On Larry King Live last night Paul Anka told about how he came to write the Tonight Show Theme for Johnny Carson. He said that he gave Johnny one-half of the song Royalties which amounted to about $200,000 per year for them both. Not bad.

I saw Johnny Carson do a "Live" show at the Sunrise Musical Theater in So. Florida in 1978.

A little more "Blue Comedy" than on the Tonite Show ... what a blast that was.

How 'bout that famous "Urban Legand" ... Zsa Zsa ...

I LOVE YOU for Sentimental Reasons

I hold you with the same respect that I do all my friends here on the Forum.
