I saw a show on CMT about Lady Country singers; there was an old clip of Kitty Wells doing her It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels. There was an original pedal steel guitarist behind her who wore glasses and played the same PSG sounds that were on the record. I'm at a loss identifying who it was.

There was another steel guitarist sitting behind him and watching him play. He did a lot of bar swinging but the sound was not an overdub. And yes, there is a lot of history back there, especially for those of us who were into steel guitar when pedals first came to the forefront. Thanks for a nice reminder, Larry !

Regards, Paul

Paul,
The Kitty Wells clip you describe sounds like it is taken from her performance in the 1966 film Second Fiddle to a Steel Guitar starring (?) Arnold (Chunky! What a Chunk of Chocolate!)Stang. The 'pedal steel guitarist behind her who wore glasses' would have been Stu Basore while the 'steel guitarist sitting behind him and watching him play' was Howard White.

Russ: I was thinking it might have been Stu but at my age, you're more apt to be careful about what you say (and think...) ! Thanks for the verification.
