Do you watch RFD-TV?

Post by Carroll Konig »

Only recently have I discovered this network. I thought folks might be interested to know that this network is running episodes of The Wilburn Bros., POP Goes Country, The Porter Wagoner Show. The channel is 9409 on Dish Network.

I watch those shows every week. I hope they bring more of those old shows back.

I also watch them, but sadly, since they started, I have noticed that they have had 3 reruns. I would hope that the programming director will take notice, and not do reruns so quickly. After all, these shows were on TV for a number of years each week, and they surely must have more shows available to run, without doing reruns in the first couple of months.

Try to catch the Saturday show of Music of the Midwest. It is a production out of Sandstone Minnesota, where they have a restored theater used for country music shows. A lot of local players and singers, but also, some of Nashville's older stars, such as Norma Jean, Jean Sheperd, Bill Anderson, Stonewall Jackson, David Frizzel, and others. I used to live in Minnesota, and have been to the theater and witnessed some of these performers. Also played there a couple of times.

Dennis, I too saw a rerun of the Wilburn Brothers Show. They come on Thursday night and are run again on Sunday morning just as Pop Goes The Country is. Every week the Porter Wagoner Show has been different. I am sure they have more of those show than they have shown. I want them to bring back some more of the other shows.

I just discovered this channel. great stuff on there. Wish there was more music, but I like watching the rest of the stuff too.

Sorry for you that don't get the channel, there really is no justice. I live in LOS ANGELES and get the RURAL tv station. I'm sure there are farming communities that can't get it!!
The Auctions are great to see, and hear too!

Say Paul, as far as the reruns go, the original broadcast is usually Thursday evening, and then the reruns are shown the following week. The reruns that I was really referring to, were the ones that they run on Thursday evening. Tonights show was new, but the POP Goes the Country, was a rerun from about a month ago, with Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed. I don't mind that they rerun the show the following Monday or Tuesday, but would hope that the first run of the show would be an original or first showing.

I have put on of these on video tape, editing out the commercials, and have two 8 hour tapes of these shows, of course ignoring the reruns, as I mentioned above.

Hope they catch this error real soon.

Dennis, The Wilburn Brothers Show this past Thursday was one I had not see. However, Sunday morning the Porter Wagonser Show was a rerun. These are from Willie Nelsons Library and I would hope he has more than a half dozen of these shows. I have yet to see Country Carnival or the Gospel Singing Jubilee as advertized.

The above statement should have been the Porter Wagoner show. I apologize for the error.

Paul,
According to the "week's content" page on www.rfdtv.com they will start showing "Country Carnival" on Wednesday of this week. Hosted by Billy Walker with guests the Osborne Brothers and Bob Barnett. The Wilburn Brothers Show is supposed to have Marty Robbins on this week.

Just saw the Wilburn Brothers Show this evening and it had some good country on it. The guests were Johnny Russell and George Hamilton IV. Hal Rugg and Buddy Spicher did some nice picking as usual. "Pop Goes The Country" was a rerun with Ronnie Milsap. Look forward to next weeks show.

Sadly Paul, both of these shows tonight were reruns. These were both on the very first night that I caught the original run. I am hoping that some comment is made to RFD-TV that this is not acceptable. With the many shows that these performers generated, why are they running reruns within just a few weeks of the original broadcast. I guess I will go to the web site and make my thought known.

Dennis, I must have started watching a little bit after you guys did. I am going to contact RFD and complain about the reruns. I find it hard to believe as long as those shows were on the air that they would not have more of them shows at their disposal.

I've been watching RFD-TV for a few years now, and that's how they run just about all of their shows.
They will run a show three or four times in a week then three or four weeks later its on again.
Its like that for their horse shows, the polka shows, the bluegrass music shows, just about all of the shows I've have seen they just keep repeating them every month

I came in Saturday evening and turned the TV over to RFD. I was disappointed that the Country Carnival had just went off the air. I have never seen that show and have been trying to find it on the schedule. Fot those who have seen that show, is it a good show? I will see Porter Wagoner this morning and hope it will not be a rerun from the last month.

Say Paul, I did write an e-mail to RFD shortly after my last post, and got a response today. They said that the reason for the reruns, was due to the fact that they had not received any new programs from the producer, and rather then remove the programming until the new programs got there, they would do reruns. They expected new programs were on the way. They thanked me for my interest. Hope this answers some questions about the reruns.

Saw the Country Carnival show last night with Billy Walker, and guest stars, Billie Jo Spears, John Wesly Ryles I, and Johnny Carver. Check the schedule, I am sure that they will be repeated this week.

I was looking at the RFD schedule and they have Country Carnival coming on Wednesday night. Thursday night they have the Wilburn Brothers and Pop Goes The Country. I catch the Porter Wagoner Show on Sunday morning. It would be nice if they would throw these shows back to back. Some of them are shown in the early morning hours like 2:00 and 5:00 A.M. I realize RFD is a great channel but it is not a major network. I have sent an email complaining about the reruns after just a month of airing these shows. I have enjoyed these shows tremendously and want to see more of them. I asked them to bring back some of the other shows such as Buck Owens and Ernest Tubb. I guess time will tell.
