I've got a chance to pick up a mid 50s model 518 triple neck 8-10-8 string Rickenbacker console steel w/horseshoe pickups for around $300. It's pretty much a carcass but all the parts are there and for another $300-$500 I think I could get it put back together and looking decent again. Question - what do they sound like? -MJ-

On Nov 9th, this same model was offered on eBay for $775.00. In Sept. a dbl-8, same model, listed for $1,250.00.
You might check their closed auctions and see what they ultimately SOLD for.
Personally, I"ve always paid an extra buck for a pristine model and always got what I paid for without the hassel of rebuilding or refinishing or whatever. To each his own.

I have a 1950's Rickenbacker double six console. Here is a picture from the Rick catalog (it shows the double 8, I have a double 6).

Great sound, kind of a cross between a Bakelite and a Stringmaster.

I have DW models myself, they sound great.
I think fifties Ricks are really very underrated, I don't know why but the good thing is it keeps the prices low.
