I happened to see that Amazon has some CD copies of Hillbilly Jazz. This was a wonderful 2-LP set in the 70's featuring Vassar Clements on fiddle, David Bromberg on guitar and Doug Jernigan on pedal steel on a parcel of western swing standards. Great tunes, great playing. Doug contributes some awesome solos and for less than $13 bucks. What a deal.

That was the album that opened my ears to the C6th hot jazz concept on PSG. Jernigan on Cherokee is awesome.

Thanks for the heads up. Ordered. Anything with Doug can be nothing but good. And with Vassar, it is a double bonus.

Yes, Andy - I had this on LP years ago, but I dumped most of my albums when I moved to the US, hoping that stuff like this would eventually appear on CD.

I didn't keep much - some stuff I'd played on, and my Lonnie Donegan records - but I really wish now that I'd kept the steel guitar records, even if I don't have anything to play them on!

And while you have your wallet out, Doug does some more tasty playing with Vassar on "Vassar Clements/Stephane Grappelli - Together At Last" with Martin Taylor on electric archtop. This is a really enjoyable record; less off the cuff and a few Middle-of-the-road pop tunes but nice nonetheless. This Cd may be out of print but copies are still ....
