Larry,
There was a song called "waltz of the angels" that came out in the late forties or early 50's. I believe a guy named Clyde Moody was the singer. I could be wrong about the singer. I agree it is a great song--wish I could remember the words--I once knew them. I guess I could get it off Buck's recording.

Started with no talent--still have most of it.

Sorry, I misread the title of the song, the only version that comes up on allmusic.com is the one you referenced in your post, and its on the Derailers "Full Western Dress".

"Waltz of the Angels" was recorded by the likes of Kitty Wells, Lefty Frizell, and a slew of others......

Larry, I believe Wynn Stewart cut Waltz of the Angels first...then maybe Lefty.
The Derailers tune is different in that it refers to the original tune via the instrumental and the request to "Play me the Waltz of the Angels and I'll Close My Eyes and Pretend." Both songs are great though. JO

It goes something like this:

The Waltz of the Angels I hear each time,
I hold you tightly in these arms of mine.
It's surely from Heaven, this music I hear,
When your lips say I love you in waltz time my dear.

Chorus:
There must be a power much higher than ours,
A writer of love songs way up in the sky.
The maker of roses of love sweet and true,
And the Waltz of the Angels the moonlight and you.

(Instrumental break, verse)

Chorus:

There must be a power, much higher than ours.
A writer of love songs way up in the sky.
The maker of roses, of love sweet and true,
And the Waltz of the Angels, he wrote just for you.....
And the waltz of the Angels, he wrote just for you.

That's from memory so there might be a couple of words changes....Have a good 'un..JH

My Uncle had Lefty Frizzell's recording of this on a red labeled, Columbia 78. I was too young to read at the time, so I took a blue crayon and marked the sides of his records that I liked. "Waltz of the Angels" was one of those and is the 1st country music recording that I can remember listening too. (my Uncle never got upset with me for coloring on his records either). I still believe it is a beautiful song! I am going to find The Derailers "Play Waltz Of The Angels Again" and give it a listen. I rememeber this being discussed a few months back. Thanks for the reminder.

Yes, "Plat Me The Waltz of The Angels" by the Derailers is a song about the song. Yes Buck did play guitar on the Wynn version. And buck sang on the Derailer version also.

There's some confusion here.
The lyrics posted by Jerry Hayes are from a gospel? song.
The lyrics from the Derailers "Play Me the Waltz of the Angels" are totally different.

Darrel McCall did a great version of the "original" Waltz of the Angels in 1975 with Buddy Emmons on Steel!
