Driving to work this morning, about 5:45 AM, I heard a song played as bumper music between segments on NPR. It was the Blue Danube Waltz, played with a steel guitar. Woke me right up.

Going on the NPR web site I found it was from an album by The totally hot Nashville Steel guitar band? On CMH records from 1996.

That's totally new to me. Anyone else know more?

Looks like it would be a good one to have. Amazon has one new copy left, and a few used ones.
That song is credited to Mike Fried on steel & Gene Wooten on dobro I believe.

Totally Hot Nashville Steel Guitar. I bought this CD just for the cover art.
Scantily attired female lying on a Fender DBL 8. I asked Don Curtis [who
was manning a booth for Scotty's Music at the Indy show last spring] about it, he said if you like the titles, you will like the CD. I agree.
The player credits are Robby Turner
Steve Wilkerson, Marty Rifkin, Ray Gantek, Mike Fried, Kayton Roberts, Mike Toppins, Gary Morse.
Titles: 1. El Cumbanchero 2. Rose Garden
3. Star Trek theme. 4. Tequila Sunrise
5. Mazatlan Taxi 6. Blue Danube
7. Lucy theme 8. Unchained Melody
9. All My Loving 10. Steel Guitar Drag
11. Dueling Steel & Dobro.
12. I Dream of Jeannie Theme [TV series]
13. Sleep Walk 14. Night Life
15. Bells St Mary's 16. Hawaii how R U
17. Under My Thumb 18. Stand by ur man
19. Aura Lee 20. La Bamba
The songs and artists are not matched on the credits, so this might be a good test for your player ID skills.
The production is pretty good though and I find it enjoyable listening.
