Before I subcribe to this free music download site i thought I'd ask how good the selection was in the classic country genre.thanks.

Go for Kazaa Media Desktop. The selections depend entirely on who is signed in at any time. When I was last in, there were about 3,500,000 participating... not bad. Once you have accumulated a goodly amount of selections, you may wish to turn it off 'cause lots of folks may be downloading stuff from you and your Internet connection speed will go right down the toilet.

My understanding from news articles is that the supoenas will be for heavy uploaders, not your routine downloaders. Do your downloads quick, then disable or remove Kasaa, or put your music files in a location unavailable to Kasaa, etc. I don't see any moral problems with coping stuff unavailable commercially.

I have a mac, so I can't use KaZaa anyhow... BUT: the subpoenas against people hosting the files (offering them for downloads) is the legal concern.
However, if everyone stops uploading files, you won't be able to download anything from it. I recall KaZaa costs money, so given that nobody is going to give you free files, you will just be hanging out with leech-users, who just want to receive. Not worth it unless it's free, basically, at this point.

What if you only offer your own songs for download? Can you do that? Will the RIAA come after you if you have a "hit" via Kazaa distribution?

Knowing bureaucracy, they'd probably come after you and then force you to pay yourself royalties. That'd figure...
