Hey Gary Morse,
Are you going to be playing with Dierks Bently on the Opry this weekend?

Wow. Two wood neck Sho-Buds tonight. Gary Morse playing Pro-II and someone playing a Professional. They mucked up Gary's Dobro for the first half of his song. And we finally get a chance to hear Tommy play again.

Dierks Bentley sounded good, I wish they would have had Gary's Dobro turned up a little more in the mix.

As for Jimmy Wayne, I won't say what I think, but my girlfriend was watching and thought it was a bad Star Search act or one of the first round losers eliminated from "American Idol".

John Conlee sang great as always. His band didn't get the mix they deserved.

I didn't watch John Michael.

Then Mel came out and made them all look like amateurs. He just has so much stage presence and a tight sounding band.

My biggest complaint about the show is how bad the mix is. You would think that, having the Opry run every Saturday night for 78 Years, someone would eventually learn how to mix the sound.

Alvin, you're right on! Mel Tillis came out being the real country professional that he is and just took the show over. It just goes to show you how much real country talent has dropped. Star search anyone?

So THAT's Tim Sergent! That's only the second time I've heard any of his playing (to my knowledge, anyway) and I was reminded what a great right-hand he has.

What a good player!

Oh - and another thing....

I was disappointed to hear what a rotten singer John Michael Montgomery is - I enjoyed that Tommy White record ('The Little Girl') that he sang on a while back. The vocal track on that song must have taken some perseverance!

Sometimes I'm at a loss to understand how these guys get any sort of break - you'd expect at least a modicum of ability would be the starting-point.....
