Me, I would be more emotionally attached to Buddy Holly's Strat..but not for $242,000...

The Zappa Strat story is very interesting as well..

Who knew..who could have realized..Some did have the foresight, others like me, bought em' cheap, played em' + sold em' cheaper..

54's, 57's A very Rare Black 58,(examined by several NY City experts for color and authenticity ) 61's, 62's and the very best I had was a '66 which I did sell a few years ago for some pretty hi dollars.

Oh well..good memories..I'm ok with it...

The only one that played well that fit me and my style was the '66, the others I never really cared for . Playability was not good and tone was very thin.

But I do have a great '54 story which I will save for a later time...

Well I know which one´s my favorite - Rory Gallagher´s Strat! I´ve seen it being played on stage three times and Rory always will be my No.1 Strat Player. May he rest in peace. I believe there is some truth to that theory that the less finish there is, the more the wood can "breathe" which influences the tone. I once had a chance to play a Strat from that period - some say the best Strats ever were made during a few months in ´61. The owner had stripped the finish completely and it had a fantastic, distinctive "ring" to it while retaining a very fat, strong tone. Since I couldn´t afford one of those, I built one myself from parts choosing not to finish the body (alder) at all, just a light coat of clear varnish, and it actually has some of that character, that ring with a very nice, warm tone.

Regards, Joe H.

I thought the serial nos. with the year were interesting, bein' that I bought one new in 56 or 57. It has a 10,000 something serial #. Haven't had it out of the closet for a while. Switched to tele after I put it away.

Boy, if Rory had only known that he wouldn't have had to strip the finish the hard way!! And it would have taken a lot less years!! Man, I miss that guy, he was a hot picker.
