| O.K., I really don't mind that the bands now sound like putrefied 80's arena rock. Kenny Chesney can wiggle like a girl and mug for the cameras and make kissy-faces all he wants. I don't mind the guy with the flowered pink guitar either, after all his name is "Paisley" (maybe). There's now a pretty-boy country singer named "Urban", too. But how about this new one by the fella named "Marcel"? Is he French or what? Why are all these guys so busy getting in touch with their feelings, instead of singing about beer and trucks and honky-tonks? It was bad enough when the corporations ruined rock in the late 70's, but now that Nashville has gotten so all-out "sensitive" (and yes that's a euphemism) I don't know what to listen to anymore. Maybe I'll run a b@njo through a Marshall stack and play black leather bluegrass or something. |

Right on Dave!
When will corperate America learn to give us
our country music back.I'm sick to death of these Nashville sissy boys!CMT's only on in my house long enough to see who is on the Opry,witch latley is also a big disapointment.So now when I see or hear some of those Nashville sissy's on TV or raido I

Marshall stck...Not bad if you leave it on the clean channel...Now about the black leather..............

I agree that channel clicking and listening to commercial radio offers very very little of anything resembling what I believe to be country music. But I'm not clear on just what you want. Do you want videos of George and Tammy duets, Ray Price on the radio? What exactly is it that you want?

What part of "traditional country doesn't sell as many records as what they're calling country today" is so hard to understand? IT'S A FACT. Live with it. There are venues other than CMT and labels other than Capitol, Mercury, etc.

Larry, "When will corporate America learn to give us our country music back.." Why should you be waiting for someone else to give you what you want? I say screw 'em. Who needs the Music Row mindset? I sure don't. And neither do you. I understand your frustration. But I stopped using my clicker and listening to commercial radio long ago. If that is the extent to which you are going to search for the music you want, I can't really sympathize too much with you. Sorry, but I just can't. Now if you've just got to have music videos to feed your appetite, I can't recommend an alternative. You're stuck with the boob tube. Maybe someone else has ideas. But I can tell you that the internet has a lot to offer in terms of music. Whether you want to hear just tunes that your're already familiar with, or would enjoy checking out artists you've never heard of who do more tradition-based music...it's out there. It's not going to jump out of the screen, pull you off the couch and make it magically appear. You're going to have to search for it. There are countless small labels out there, with countless fine pickers and singers who have recordings that you have likely never heard of. Some you would like, some you wouldn't. I don't know your specific tastes. But wouldn't it be nice to support some of these folks by listening to their music, and maybe buying a CD once in a while? This applies not just to country music either. Erik's comment about cancelling cable is a good one. I would, except that I connect online with it. I would also add that in some places, cable offers some mighty fine, digital-quality, audio-only programming. You can either become proactive and search to find the music you want, or continue to watch CMT and complain because someone else isn't giving you what you want. Just my $.02...that and a buck will get ya, well...not much  |

I'll never change thier mindset.I'm a big
supporter of alternative country staitions&
artist.And I love a lot of what I find as well as some that Im not so crazy about.
Didn't mean to start a ruckess.Sorry.

Larry,
Before you crawl, I'd be interested in knowing what you would suggest they call the music that is currently called Contemporary Country (sometimes, just Country). I'm serious and I fully realize what many Forumites DO call it. I'm just not that offended that they call it country. I have no problem adding the word 'Classic' for the Price/Buck/Hag stuff and 'Contemporary' for the new stuff and would like to understand why some folks feel so strongly about this topic.
If you listen to what they call Rock or Pop or Metal -- or for that matter, Classical --today, it isn't the same as when that category was originated either.
Music evolves just like language. Many of the words we use today didn't even exist 25 or 50 years ago.
I love the music of the past too, but I'd always assumed one reason they invented records and tape and CDs was so that we could listen to it forever. Why does it have to come out of the radio?

What's wrong with you people? I hate the country
music now too, but why would anyone want to listen to a bunch of meaningless drivel about
macho cowboys and there trucks? A good artist
should be able to blend sensitivity and attitude.
