DVD "The Road to Nashville"
I just got this DVD of a 1967 movie, which features 38 classic country songs from that era, strung together by flimsy comedy story line. Includes Webb Pierce, Johnny Cash, Carter Family, Kitty Wells, Johnny Wright, Connie Smith (very young!), Stoneman Family, Osborne Brothers, etc. You can hear more steel than you can see, because the DVD does not have the wide-screen theatrical option. There are a number of instances where the steel player is far to the right or the left in the scene, and all you see is one foot on the volume pedal. You do get to see Don Warden and his stand-up Sho-Bud with Porter Waggoner, and Jimmy Crawford with Hank Snow, and several other steelers I couldn't identify. Somebody was playing a black Emmons with Faron Young, another gent played a Sho-Bud with an inlaid front with Bill Anderson, and you get a partial view of Marty Robbins' steeler with an old Fender. Has anybody else seen this old chestnut? Can you identify the players?
