Butch,

unfortunately, not everyone can get the radio show. That's really too bad because the TV portion "does not represent" what really goes on at the Opry. Where else can you hear TOMMY WHITE play all night long? Granted, you might not get to hear that much of him on the TV show, but on the radio he is there all night long!

There are many other great players who are there like JOHN HUGHEY when Vince performs, DUMPLIN' with Connie, DARRELL who backs up Jim ED, DONNA backing up Bill, and many more.

The radio show is really the best way to hear the Opry and some great playin' and singin'.

Me?...I'm just glad to be there! (Fri:7:00&10:30, Sat:8:00&11:00. We "host" both shows Friday night)

By the way, if you have a favorite steel player appearing with a particular artist you can visit the Opry site and it will give all the acts for both nights and their time spots!

Yeah, I know it takes a long time to load!

Thanks guys!
Dave

Back when the opry was just on the radio it was great, sill is on the radio more like the country music I like to hear. So what are we losing if we don't watch the TV portion of the show? I hear music ,not see it. Now if entertainment is what we want, thats where seeing TV are added, and what we sometimes see add nothing to the music. Sometimes the extra going -ons can be distracting. Like Shaina or Lorie Morgan in a short dress . Joe

I have to totally agree with Dave. One blessing we have here on the west coast of Florida is WSM comes in clear as a bell after 6 PM at night, all night until about 8 am when Cuba takes over. It is a shame sometimes to see the acts Buck and Fish let on the GOO.But I understand their total ignorance with Country Music and it's traditition. It has been awhile since Ray Pillow has been in front of the camera. The Staff band really honks when he is on.(not that they don't bust all the time)There are many great Country acts still out there especially in Texas that would serve the Oprys tradition than those CMT Teenie Boppers. Just my own $%#@$n opinion.(and maybe not)

Ever since "Country Music" came to TV, by way of "CMT," more impotance has been placed on what the performer "looks" like. Yeah, "sex sells."

But to me, the music is not about what they look like, but what they sound like! By "listening" to the Opry by way of radio I think you get a much more realistic idea. On the TV, there's Shania, and Faith...and there's always going to be those who like them or don't, or maybe even jealous of them... but it's about what they look like! If you stand with your back to the TV they aren't nearly as interesting!

With the Opry radio show, what you hear is what you get! You "listen" to the music. If you like steel, you can hear it...guitar? fiddle? They are there too. It's about the music, "not" what they look like! You are going to "hear" more steel guitar there than you'll ever hear on CMT "or" the Televised Opry.

I don't think most people today can sit in the house and listen to the radio. When I was young it's all we had and it was wonderful! I'm so glad I can get it on the internet. I don't have to see it, I want to listen to it! It's a lot lot better when the cameras go off.

Jim, you are so right!

Most people today are too busy to stop and listen to the radio, but they're not too busy to stop and watch TV! Let's face it, "sex appeal" can stop anyone dead in their tracks. TV in general uses sex appeal for ratings. Too bad ratings aren't based on music.

The computor is a great way to "listen" to the radio without having to stop everything. How many times do we get on the net and "surf" while listening to a CD? The radio can be just as productive. In stead of that CD on Saturday night while surfing and reading forums, get the Opry tuned in! Lots of different artist "both" old and new, and steel guitar and fiddle. It's a great place to get to hear Tommy White all night long, not too mention all the others. No "boobs," no "hunks," just a lot of country music!
