Last year there were a couple of programs on T.V., one called "Pop Stars" and also another one along the same lines.
After viewing one of them for about 20 minutes, I got so angry I had to shut it off.
Basically it consisted of a cattle call for hundreds of young fresh-faced pop-bots who have swallowed the corporate balony suggesting that wiggling your bum around makes you a musician worthy of boundless praise and adulation.
They all auditioned and had their "image" critiqued by some industry types that know just what kind of bell to ring to make all the dogs drool. Some lucky participants were chosen to become the subject of a hype and advertising binge
by the Big Machine that would make McDonald's blush.
The result; sold out halls everywhere, filled to capacity with teary-eyed human hormones, waiting breathlessly to declare their support for music they'd never even heard before. (Shades of Shania's new release - Decided to be a hit in some board room before anyone even heard it.)
I wouldn't ever tell someone what to listen to or enjoy, but the sinister backdrop of the Grand Deception sickened me. It's bad enough to play people for the dummies they are, but to produce a T.V. series which basically says "Now that we've sucked you all in, you brainless twerps, we're going to show you how, and not only that, but we're going to make money doing it." seems way over the top to me.
I'm obviously in the minority though.
So today, we have this announcement:

So, I ask you; Are people really that dumb ?

I agree John, I'd rather watch that show where they make people eat bugs. |

Not knowing a rhetorical question when I see one, the correct answer is.........yes. |

No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public. --H.L.M.
Quit it. Y'all are just boasting about being Canadians. |

Boasting about being Canadian ? Yeah, right.
Actually, it's very important for the industry people to tell the American people what to listen to.... because the Canadians are all patiently waiting for the American public to tell them what to listen to.
They've no more mind of their own than anyone else in North America.
Anyway, thanks for endulging me.
