Lyrics and Rhymes
I was explaining to a grandchild how lines in a song are supposed to rhyme. The question came up: Why only two lines in rhyme, why not three or four ?? Well, I thought of only one three liner from an old Temptations song:
You must realize
When that lovely flame dies
Smoke gets in your eyes.
Could anyone give a four liner or perhaps even some more three liners ? Thank You !!
Regards, Paul

Jeffrey Comanor wrote those lyrics, which are so memorable that I can still recall them after hearing the song only once, at Tampa Stadium on July 4 1976, where J.C. sang these and about a dozen more equally inspired verses before a phalanx of fat cops named Buford stormed the stage, interrupted the song, and carted his sorry ass off to jail for saying the F-word on a giant PA system where a hundred thousand patriotic young people were celebrating Bicentennial Day by getting high and getting naked.

I always thought most country songs -ballads had 4 lines per verse and chorus,
"There`s a picture ,that I carry
One we made some time ago,
when they ask who`s in the picture with you
I say , just someone I used to know
Just someone I used to run around with,
Just a flame thats lost it`s glow
I dont tell them how lost I am without you
I say, just someone I used to know.

Paul,
Several years ago, Cal Smith had a song out entitled, "Destination Atlanta, GA" and parts went something like this...
I'll tell the man at the station,
I want a one way reservation,
and make my destination,
Atlanta, GA.
also
I'll draw the pay that I've got comin'
I'll hit the station runnin'
Get ready for all the fun in,
Atlanta, GA.
and
I'll call down to the station,
for ticket information,
Confirm my reservation,
for Atlanta, GA.
Sounds like this might possibly fit what you're looking for also.

Lem: You got me to thinkin':: Cal Smith....
Where'd you come from country bumpkin'
Fresh as dew out on the pumpkin
I've seen a lot but man you're somethin'
Where'd you come from country bumpkin'
I think I've found my four liner.
And while I'm at it; my new grandson would fit a verse in that song as well. He sure is
somethin' special to me !!
Regards, Paul

Jim , your wife i correct on that line .
The wife of 58 yrs. And I got to singing the parts of the old song we recalled, and somehow it allcame back to us
Evening shadows make me blue
when each weary day is through
How I long to be with you
My happiness
Every day I reminise
Dreaming of your tender kiss
Always thinking how I miss
My happiness
A million tears it seems
have gone by since we shared our dreams
But I`ll hold you again
There`ll be no blue memories then
Whether skys are grey or blue
Any place on earth will do
Just as long as I have you
My happiness
