I can just hear it now: "I used to have a good job working at the penitentiary tracking escaped convicts, but then my inmate handler introduced me to this female Blue Tick Hound and corrupted me. Now I have lost everything and while Blake Sheldon rakes in millions off of his recorded version of my life story I am stuck in the prison infirmary waiting for an operation that will change my life and hopefully regain my focus on the proper scent.....
All I can say is there are some songwriters with way too much time on their hands. For this little diatribe to make sense you must first listen carefully to the country hit "Old Red" by Blake Sheldon. Peter Dollard |

Hey Peter....long time no "see" brotha!
To really respond to your post one would have to admit to listening to new country radio AND watching the Jerry Springer show. I don't know if I'm ready to do that just yet. |

Hmmmmmm....If I was a songwriter, how much time would I spend writing a song that went "Gold"? I don't care for the song either, but I've heard a lot worse! |

Yeesh.
I would like to publicly retract a statement I made earlier. Yesterday at the ISGC I told a friend that the tuna sandwiches at O'Hare Airport really suck. I now realize, not having papers from the Cordon Bleu School of Cooking, I had no right to that opinion.

Didn't George Jones do a song by the name of "Old Red"? I think it was on his album that also had that song about every time I leave a mark someone paints the wall. |

I think the George Jones song
was Called Ol' Frank.
"She cried all the way to the chapel
like she really cared for ol' Frank.
She cried all the way
to the grave where he lay,
then she smiled
all the way to the bank."[This message was edited by Andy Greatrix on 02 September 2002 at 04:16 AM.] |

Nope, I know which song you speak of, but "Old Frank" isn't the one I'm thinking of. I'm pretty sure it was about a dog called "Old Red". But that was a good song! |

Using the logic in a previous post: People who aren't movie directors have no right to like or dislike films unless they have directed one because they aren't aware of the hard work directors do in preparing their films. People who have an opinion on a particular VanGogh painting have no right to do so because they aren't painters themselves and have not experienced the act of painting.
Having reread my post all I said was that to me the story of this song was silly and that was all I meant. Hats are off to the writer who not only got somebody to listen to this but to actually record it. I do not think I personally indulged in an ad hominem attack on the author of this song. Finally I have written some song lyrics and I include one verse so you can trash it at your pleasure.
I always loved the Don Williams version of Amanda but felt that it needed one final verse here is that verse:
Been picking and playing for 22 years
The road and the twilight are part of my fears
One day I'll rise up and watch my star fall
And sing to the angels that carry us all. |

I've never attempted lyrics, but I'll give it a shot..
"I've travelled this continent since I was a lad,
And that tuna sandwich was nothing but bad.
If you knew Peter better, I think you'd have found,
He just has high standards for songs about hounds. "
