I had a chance to finally listen and tape the show . Excellent.
Also some great conversation about Buddy, the Derby's and comments about Ernie's "Buddy" website.
Buddy's got some buddies !

I did catch the live show and thought it may have be atmospheric interference causing an unfamiliar tone but after listening to the archieved show, interference was not the problem. Just my opinion but, Buddy's tone must have been similar to early Calumet City. Just not what I expected to hear from "The Best". |

The pathway from Buddy's heart to your ears is a long and circuitous one. |

Is there any way to download the archive of the show so I can burn it to a CD?

Richard unless you have a software which allows direct recording of these type of streamed files to your PC you probably need to play it, record it to tape ( using the speaker outputs)( I do this all the time ) and record the songs back on your PC as wave files then convert to CD ...Geeze was that a run on sentence ?
Some external CD burners will allow you to send the audio feed direct and record on the fly as well.
Johnny and Buddy play about 8 or 10 songs on the show, there are several other in-between tunes that are ET record shop selections, you may or may not want to record those onto you CD.

Thanks Tony. Actually, I think I already have the capability. I have a Tascam 4 track recorder that is hooked to the line out on my sound card. I use this setup to record BIAB songs to tape so I can add the steel playing. I then hook this up to my Philips audio CD recorder that I have and burn CD's. Works great. I'll have to give this a try.

Jay, I was talking about tone too. The bandwith on these interfaces probably degrades the signal so that what you hear on this end is WAY different than what Buddy put out from his amp. |

John,
I did listen to the original broadcast on a Bose Wave radio which should have produced a reasonably true tone. Perhaps there was some tone modfication through the board. If you heard the original broadcast you must admit the touch and artistic expression was pure Emmons but, the tone was lacking in both the original and archieved presentations.

Speaking of bandwidth, how about WSM's +/-
5 kHz on AM and you only get half of that after the detector so 5 kHz period. Not bad for sounding that good all over the country.

Richard,
If you can get "cooledit 96" or "cooledit pro" off the internet, you can use that to record the archives direct to your hard drive , save it as a .wav file then burn it. I done that with the Bush/Emmons show and removed all the talking (except for the derby gangs message to Buddy). There was only six songs after you take all the Jimmie Rogers and ET commercials out but they were good ones.
