I heard "Drive". What an excellent song. The ending is all steel, with a classic pause as if he was saying, "OK, you Steel Guitar Forum whiners, here's your steel guitar ending!!! LOL. I've been listening to the sample cuts at cdnow. This might be his best album ever. He wrote most of the tunes. Lot's o'steel too! This oughta go multi-platinum, i think. |

I wouldn't be surprised if AJ does occasionally read the Steel Guitar Forum! I know that a number of big country music names do read but never post, because I've talked to a few of these stars in person and they have told me that they tune in when they have a chance. Why? Because it's interesting. SGF is not a secret! The amazing thing is that this forum appeals not only to steel players and builders, but to musicians and performers in general, music historians, music fans, music promoters, music producers, manufacturers' representatives, and so on. Some post and some don't, but a few seeds are being planted in good places and that's the important thing. All the more reason for each of us to think about what we say in our individual posts because it's more than just chatter; we really are making a contribution of a significant nature. AJ, if you happen to be out there, thanks for the good job you're doing and thanks for reading the Forum!

I buy every AJ CD because the Steel (and other stuff) is so good!
As a Steeler, if you learn PFs fills and solos on AJs songs, you can pretty much handle any current country that comes your way. (even ones you've never heard)
"Designated Drinker" on that new CD should become a hit. I recently posted it in the SGF's TABLATURE section.
Thanks, Alan![This message was edited by Joey Ace on 04 March 2002 at 08:52 AM.] |

He played CBGB in New York, anyone of his status that would do that is way up in my esteem. |

I'm with Joey on Alan's CD's. I guess the only one I don't have is the Greatest Hits, which only added a couple of hits...
On "Drive" I'm really amused by "Work In Progress". I'm not sure why, but my wife could probably tell ya.
Country music just comes natural to Alan Jackson. Rest assured that steel guitar is there because HE wants it there, not simply to please us. But hey, we'll take it how ever we can get it.

I have the entire collection, even the x-mas album and believe me THAT one was hard to get in Germany !!
I love his songwriting and his singing and with Paul and Brent onboard he can't do no wrong.

He played there probably a month ago for a bunch of firemen, I think, I read about it in a People magazine or the local Paper. It was cool and he seemed to dig doing the show.
Alan is a standup guy, Living so close to NYC and my town losing 12 people in the disaster, his song "where were you...' still chokes me up every time I hear it.

Craig, I didn't know that he played there recently. Yeah, my sister lives in the East Village. I happened to be home watching the event unfold on tv. I called her, she was actually asleep. But went on her roof after she checked my message and watched it. I have been on her roof you can see every landmark in NYC and feel you can reach out and touch them in humongous 3D. It is breath taking. Of course, the landscape has changed.
You want some CBGB history, my sister saw Talking Heads there in the 70s when they were unknowns. |

I Guess the thing I like about AJ is his respect for Artists that "Trashville" seems to forget !!!!! At the awards, he and his band,,,broke into "Choice's" by George Jones, sort of made me fuzzy eyed. lord knows the love hate relationship that Nashvile has with George Jones,,,but AJ seems to thumb his nose, In a polite sort of way and takes a stand not only to record his style,,,but anyone listening to any of his cuts,, surely hears the "old Country" that is the fondation of what country music was, is and should be.

Yes, it's not just about music it's about principles. |
