Mine is, "I Start Thinking About You". The Instrumetal break was split between a very "Mooneyesque" steel solo and a Vibes solo (maybe Charley McCoy). Very cool song, interesting melody and changes and a great session. Probably recorded around 1970 on Epic. |

"My Heart's Not In It Anymore" from Tie a Yellow Ribbon album 1973. Great steel by Lloyd Green, in fact IMHO this album contains some of Lloyd's greatest work ever! |

"Poverty Stricken Heart" Might be the only traditional Country tune I heard Johnny do. It had great steel. |

Wasn't Johnny Carver part of the L.A. crowd in the early 60's, perhaps as a bass player? |

He was part of the Gene Davis or Red Rhodes band at the Palamino Club in North Hollywood for a while. He played acoustic rhythm guitar and contributed vocals.

I really like the arrangement of "Pass Me By" on the Double Exposure album. |

Jerry, nice recall there dude.
Johnny Carver was indeed part of the Palomino crowd, he was the rhythm guy and singer around the time that Gene Davis split and Red took over the band. Once he got his solo deal he was out of there.

Bobby Boydd told me that Johnny Carver was one of the hottest steel players that he (Bobby) ever heard. I worked at the Foothill with Johnny prior to his leaving to go to the Palomino. (I never had the pleasure of hearing Johnny play steel, unfortunately), and never got to know him well either |
