Words to "Dreams of a Dreamer"
My wife needs the words to this song. She thinks the title is "Dreams of a Dreamer". At least that seems to be the hook in the song. I've searched Cowpie and several others and can't find it.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry I can't help you with the words, but it's an old Darrell McCall tune that we play at least once every gig.

Lost my pickup in a card game in New Orleans
Lost my girl to a stranger in LA
Left my dreams in a motel in Atlanta
And I guess I lost my mind along the way.
Can't you see I'm dying on my feet
Walking to my grave too gone to weep
These old memories is tearing up my mind
They're just dreams of a dreamer gone blind
The bright lights have gone away for the good times
This old yearning in my soul chills my brain
The ashes of my years have been scattered
By the laughter wine and miles of yesterday
Can't you see I'm dying on my feet
Walking to my grave too gone to weep
These old memories is tearing up my mind
They're just dreams of a dreamer gone blind
These old memories is tearing up my mind
They're just dreams of a dreamer gone blind
That is about as close as I can get by memory
One of my favorite Gene Watson songs. Dan

Dan, thats not bad if you are doing from memory. I have the Darell McCall version and he changed a few words.
Walking to my grave to (stoned) to weep.
The ashes of my (youth) have been scattered.
Jack if your wife sangs this song I will have to come hear her. Its a great song.
About 10 years ago my 12 year old son did this song for a school show. Can you see a 12 year old kid sanging,"walking to my grave to stoned to weep". Well needless to say I have never lived that one down. But, on the bright side he loves country music and is one heck of a steel player.

Sadly, if someone lives in a large city nowadays, your quote above seems reasonable. I'm sure that for your son, it was only the lyrics of an adult song, not a reflection of his life. Lyrics that, unfortunately, many of his generation could call an anthem in today's world.
