| I think this is very bad news, reading between the lines. It looks like the Gaylord "boys" want to move an American icon to syndication land so they can revamp an American instituion (WSM) into their idea of a cutting edge radio station. The move to syndication is there way of maintaining a vehicle to air the Opry until they find out it is not a valuable syndication commodity while at the same time revamping WSM. This announcement sickens me and obviously the "on air" personalities who were present felt the same way. I hope I'm wrong. |

| A lot of the on-air talent that I've known doesn't really care what the station format is. It's a job. They may have a personal preference, but if the station format is traditional country then they will "sell" it. If it's modern pop country they will sell that, etc. I have a friend that was a DJ and then the Program Director at a Country station in Kansas City. He got the axe and 3 months later resurfaced as a DJ on a classical music station. I've got another friend that has worked in all formats (a job is a job). |

| Yes, most on air "talent" and I use the term loosely, don't much care about format. But in this case we're talkin' the "Aircastle of the South" WSM! Guys like Eddie Stubbs for instance might tell you that spinning classic country at WSM is like a ballplayer playing for the Yankees. The thought of WSM changing format saddens me. |

I think Frank is right. If the show went into syndication, then the Opry's "old guard" might soon be gone. They'd probably want more of the younger stars, and more of the "modern" country sound. We all know there's probably not enough audience that likes the more classic country sounds to sustain large scale syndication with much of this type of programming.

Janice...in a word, "no". But, if it were syndicated "big time" (like 500+ stations), They'd probably make make more money in the first 5 minutes of the show than they make now in 6 hours!
A two or three hour show could be a goldmine (we're talking 6 or 7 zeroes). |

When the CMA constantly chooses the top Jocks each year they ignore the real top Jocks who reside at WSM...Nashville use to promote Country Music and tourism now they need the parking for a 6-10 football team that is playing like it's old Houston past.WSM DJS not only know what they are talking about they love what they are doing.When the Gaylords finally succeed in the demise and destruction of a tradition, there will be no studios,jobs,and last but not least Country Music headquarted in Nashvile...If the Big artist who are now currently raking it in believed in the product they are selling, they would band together and put their money where their mouths are and form a corp. and buy out the OPry,and WSM. Hell Garth Brooks carrys that much around as chunk change.But no one one wants to spend money on a Horse that can't run. As Smiley Roberts said to me over the phone yesterday...."Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their Country"

Anyone of those could step foreard by themselves and invest in the product they sell and got rich on.However maybe they are worried about their rainy days ahead.They too can see the downside and the future of airplay in their careers.Merle Haggard got tired of letting labels screw with his music and put out a killer CD.He may not be getting that much airplay but word of mouth and sales will point to the spot on the Hags a$$ for them to kiss. If there were more true investors in Country music industry than grabbers and get rich quick Big City Gaylords with scrooge attitudes, Country Music new or old would stand a chance.

If we have to take snycation well look at The Lawernce show. We without cable or dish don't get and Grand Ole Opera I would take what ever I can get. Your idea oa the country stars taking over is the best I have heard. Each star could make sure his music is played. Merles career was most over until he was inducted into the country music hall of fame and he cant play all the dates that he iis offered. Long live country.

I saw a rumor the announcment on Saterday may be about a permenent move back to the Ryman.
Also will WSM AM become an all sports format ?
