Opry on CMT

Post by Kenny Yates »

If you watched it on cmt, you missed Charlie Walker, Bill Anderson's second song and Winona's third song but when you're targeting fourteen year olds, that's about right.

BTW Dave Robbins just as I was sending this, you were knocking my sock off again, would you cool it a littleI'm running short on socks. Image I had to do this edit to add this.
[This message was edited by Kenny Yates on 15 September 2001 at 06:38 PM.]

It was Wynonna's first time on the opry. Wow! I was knocked out.... I woke up singing "How Great Thou Art" this morning. Yes, The opry crowd loved her and perhaps not as many young people would have attended the opry if she hadn't of been there last night Image Theresa

Wynona's rendition of "How Great Thou Art" was wonderful and well deserving of the standing ovation she received. Image However, the audience shot after her first song showed many teeny boppers jumping and screaming, but the older folks were sitting in their seats not sure if they should even applaud or not.

For CMT to televise the Opry was great for people. To be so critical is appalling to me. Music brings everyone together or it should. Reading this forum appears to differ my belief. Theresa

Theresa, the Opry was "bumped" down to CMT. It will be a surprise if the Opry's televised contract is renewed so we should enjoy it while we have it. I think everyone appreciates the fact that it is televised but it is nothing near as good as it was on TNN. The new format sucks because there is alot that is missed. Last night's show was acceptable as Tommy got to cut loose, kick ass and take names. Donna Hammit was great also.

Mike,
It's people like you that like only certain broadcast. We live in America, and I'm sickened by so many comments. God Bless America! Theresa

I'm glad we can still see the Opry, Image but I still say that we saw more music in 30 minutes on TNN than we see in one hour on CMT. Image

I'm going to start taping it so I can watch just the music and skip the commercials and mindless interviews. I bet it will only take 15-20 minutes to watch the music.

Jim,
I'm sure you only saw 15 minutes of a 30 minute spot, if that. Anyway, we all need to appreciate what we get. Since we've all taken so much for granted.Theresa
[This message was edited by Theresa Galbraith on 16 September 2001 at 03:04 PM.]

Theresa, I hate to debate the obvious with you, but you just won't give in. When the Opry was on TNN, we saw every artist and every song that appeared in the 30 minute segment, certainly more than 15 minutes.

The "normal" network 30 minute TV show has 10-12 minutes of commercials, but the TNN commercials corresponded exactly with the onstage commercials, definetely less than "normal" network shows and definitely less than 15 minutes worth of commercials.

Now that CMT has the Opry we are not only missing songs, but entire acts, as Kenny Yates asserts at the beginning of this post.

Jim,
Ok, It's changed! You guys didn't like it on TNN either. It might as well be off the air, with all the negative it get's anyway. I need to stop reading this negative forum. Our world is more important! To bad "whine me up" isn't being played right now. Theresa

I was so disgusted, I turned it off in the middle of Wynonna's tune. She looks like Rosie O'Donnel with red hair. Damn, what a HOG!!!!!!! Image Image Image

I think at this time we can (we SHOULD be able to) realize what she is talking about.

Moaning/bitching/whining about what artists are or are not shown on TV for how long is pretty far down in the scheme of things - many people have many other things to get much more upset about.
If it makes you feel better - or if it is really that important to you - well, carry on, I guess... you will anyway...

Did anyone notice Bob and Sonny? I think Bob is now 70 or 71. He can't hit the high one's as forcefully as he once could, but he still sounds good to me. Sonny would now be 63 or 64 wouldn't he? He makes me realize why I still have a banjo! Listening to their music just makes me feel good.

By the way, their album "From Rocky Top to Muddy Bottom" , I think that is the correct one, has Buddy Emmons all over it. Some of the prettiest steel guitar especially on "The Dream I Can't Live Without". I think that is the name. It talks about a pony I never had, skates, etc.

Anyway, just my $.02 worth.

Theresa, I somehow get the feeling that you were talking about my comment that CMT is targeted to fourteen year olds, they are targeted to teenyboppers, but that's okay it's their station and their money and they can target anyone they want....no one is holding a gun to my head to make me watch them. They probably are selling out for money, but what the hey we all do it. When I played the bars and clubs, I didn't like about ninety percent of what I played but I played it because I wanted to work, so I sold Out too. Because you don't like what I like doesn't make you a bad person, a little weird maybe....that was a joke I was smiling.....But also it doesn't make me one dimentional either, as you seem to think. There is not much prettier than a low sax playing a slow jazz tune, or a piano playing a great blues, or maybe a slide trombone and a Clarinet doing when the saints go marching in. My Idea of great singing is Ronnie Milsap sing too late to worry too blue to cry .......or Judy Collins singing Amazing grace. Two of the most talented singer I ever heard were Judy Garland and her daughter Liza Minelli, but they didn't sweeten my tea, but they did okay even if I wasn't their biggest fan. Yes I think Winonna has a great voice, but she doesn't trim my sideburns either....I don't think that makes me bad or you bad, and no I didn't badmouth anyone on my original post.
