Gibson Console Grande, current value?

Post by Brian Beebe »

I have a friend who is selling a 1954 Gibson Console Grande D-8 in pretty nice shape. It's all original, including the brown case, except for a small route on the underside of the body where someone tried to add pedals. What is a fair price for this guitar?

Solidbody Console Grand's with P-90's seem to go for $800-$1000 in good shape.

A beater recently went on Ebay for $450.

The rout in the bottom of the guitar will keep the instrument from bringing top money. That is a very serious negative to collectors of these instruments.

With a bit of luck it won't go to a collector and actually will become a nice gigging instrument.

Fill in the Rout with plastic-wood, and spray with a little Flat-Black, and you may feel better about the imperfection! Hopefully the 'router' had some feeling for the instrument and didn't booger it up too much! Good Luck!

Hi Brett: No Ridley College. I was born in Halifax, moved to Montreal in 1960, and working with Montrel Engineering in 70's, they moved us to here. Retired here from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. Yes, we like St. Kitts. Now is the time for all the peach festivals!!!! Geo

Hi, Brian, Guitar base Guitar mall is a good site to check for current dealer prices. There are usually some Console Grandes on there, three or four nice ones right now... http://www.gbase.com/

Many thanks to all of you for your replys. Chris, I will forward your email address to my friend. He owns a small guitar store here in Atlanta and you will find there is no better person to deal with.
