Bob
Serial numbers were inconsistent back then.
Often a serial number with a low number was in fact in stock for a period of time before
shipment was made to a Fender dealer.

I had a ledger until recently when I gave it to the son of a former VP of manufacturing at Fender. His dad gave it to me years back when CBS took over the Fender company. That
ledger gave me information on dates shipped and who the dealer was the received it.

However, from what little I can go on, I would
feel it safe to say that your guitar is right
in that area of 55 or 56.

There is little or no difference in most Stringmasters during those years of manufacture.String Length is a clue..pickup covers another clue, are the covers black or chrome? are the neck selectors slide type ot push button? Does your guitar have the three way blade type neck selector?.

There are many variations to take into consideration. My guess is as I stated..Its
more than likely a 1955 to 56 vintage. If you can give me some additional information regarding the features I mentioned I may be able to get a bit closer in determining the year within reason.

Better yet you can send me jpegs if you wish
I would be happy to answer your questions if I can..but I cant guarranty my accuracy.

You have a great guitar regardless of the date and time it was born. I'll mail you my e mail address.

Thanks for asking,I only wished I knew how to answer you.I even forgot how old I am.

I have a beautiful blonde D-8 Stringmaster that came with a black Tolex case. I've looked under the tuning pans and did not find anything indicating date or serial number. I'm told if the guitar has the black Tolex case it is from the 60's or 70's.

Jody, can you add anything?

Thanks
Bill
