Seems like the Country Music topic is disapearing along with the music itself.O well over to off topic and see what Jane Fonda's up too.

Well Joe, seems they're all lining up to see some 11 year old boy sing on the Opry tonight in Dale Watson's spot. How's that for a kick in the behind.
Did anyone ever hear of waiting your turn? How long could this kid be singing? D.W. has been playing and singing for years and this would have been so good for him, and now some spoilt brat gets in there ahead of him. Yes I know I'm probably not being fair to the kid.......but who cares he's got the spot, not Dale, where's the fairness in that?Sorry if I sound vindictive but "break a leg kid"....literally. Anne, I have to agree with you. I don't have anything against children (I was one many years ago) but "kid acts" just don't turn me on. If I'm going to pay money to see a "professional" show why should I have to listen to some kid act that probably won't be around 6 months from now (and really would rather be doing something else but his parents have pushed him or her into it).

W.C. Fields was right. "Never follow a kid act,or a dog act".(or somethin' like that)
In Dale's case,he didn't even get the opportunity to follow the "little brat" Image Image

Anyone know an Opry address (or email?) that we can write to and complain. Maybe if we all bombard them with messeges... naw, I don't think they'd listen to us. We're interested in music and that's not really their product, is it?

I'T now 4;30 ,I had just come in the house from practice on my steel.
Thought I'D take a nap and then get ready to watch the tube ,to see Dale Watson perform and finally get to hear Ricky, play Steel.
I guess there no need to watch a kid.
I don;t ever watch the opry, But when I found out about Dale being there,I had planned all week to be tune in Image Image Image
Well I guess it's movie night again.

Not real true Country folks. They may adapt but change?, never. They just hang around long enough until it changes back again. If it never does there is still enough good old stuff to last a lifetime out there. "Pop a top again" .

I agree we all change as we get older too, we live and learn as we experience life. I don't feel the same as I did when I was 18. I think I've changed with the times! Music changes too!!

"Music changes..."

But not necessarily for the better.

If the latest is the greatest, then Britney is better than Bach.

See? Forward momentum is not necessarily progress.

Theresa:
I agree that we change as we get older but for myself, the music I loved back in the mid to late 60's, I still love today. The old country spoke to me in ways that the new stuff doesn't, or maybe it's just me, but I don't think so. It wasn't just the instrumentation but the general flow of the lyrics, that told of life and all it's inherent problems. You don't hear a whole lot of this in the new country of today. Seems to me that they are too hooked up on production. Kinda hard to differentiate between todays country and the rock of the early 60's, IMHO.

The main change tho' is, we get better, not older!! Image

Regarding how the changes have infected radio, it seems that every time I've turned to radio the past month or so, I am met with Toby Keith holloring at me "How do you like me now?!?!?!", I mean EVERY time and I just do not understand how that could possible get that kind of airplay. As for Toby's question of the song.....
I can assure you that he doesn't want to know the answer, as it's that kind of crap that keeps a CD from Hag, Buck, Hank T, Hank W, Jones, Dale W, etc, etc loaded in my player at all times. - Neil H.
