I goofed up and didn't record the TNN Awards. Who won what? I did hear that Faith Hill won Female Vocalist. I heard it on the radio hours before the show came on TV. Kinda bummed me out.

Not a bad lineup this week. However, the real star of the Opry seems to be the new backdrop. It's very good but in a way too good and it seems to take center stage instead of the artists.

I still think the new set bites the big one! It just seems too dark and there's not a lot of stage action at all. The show was OK last night but I'm waiting to hear Dale Watson when he appears!

I was watching when Porter played and the camera took a side shot of Fred Newell and I noticed that his guitar had a narrower neck on the outside, maybe a 6 or 8 string. I had previously thought that maybe he'd had his steel set up like Chalker or Ralph Mooney with the E9 inside and another pedal tuning on the outside, maybe C6 or A6 or something. Does anyone know what he uses? It might be a Dobro tuning or as I remember, when I knew Gene Fields in Calif. he used a fretted neck on the outside of his steel and played it like Thumbs Carlisle. As Fred plays one of Gene's steels (GFI) this might be a possibility. If anyone knows for sure it'd be appreciated.

hey guys and gals I guess you would have had to been there, but I watched the opry from backstage this week and as a whole the opry was dam'n good, the new barn is realy nice to look at and enjoy it changing colors while the bull$*#% rock country bands were playing, I got to spend some time visiting with Tommy White what a player!

I got to watch the Saturday show last evening (I always tape it). Maybe it was just me but the stage seemed to be "more" cluttered and not as much room as it used to be.

Whey they put the new backdrop in did they place it closer to the front and cut off part of the stage??.

Up til the time they moved Tommy back to the "orchestra pit" it seemed like there was more room on the stage. And now with the new backdrop it seems even less.

One last comment, the country rock music behind Porter's opening number just didn't go with the song or the way Porter sings. Sort of like the band was playing one song and Porter was singing another. But then neither does Porter's new hairdo.

Porter always seems like he is singing a different song than the music being played too me. He ought to get out of the audience with baby huey and be on stage where he is suppose to be.MHO
