Just heard on the radio that Tommy passed away today around noon cst. Great talent and a nice man. Condolences. Richard

Hey Richard,
He was a great vocal stylist, songwriter, and friend to many artists. I remember when I was in high school in the 50's I used to listen to "It Tickles", "You Gotta Have a License", "You Just Better Not Do That" and all those good old tunes of his. His real name was Leonard I believe and he was the subject of Merle Haggard's song "Leonard" where Merle tells a true story about him bringing around a bag of groceries when he didn't have any money. He also wrote a couple of Merle's later hits. RIP Tommy Collins!

Whatta bummer!!
Tommy was a talented guy. Singer & songwriter. I used to do,"You Better Not Do That",back in the '50's. For those of you who didn't know it,Buck Owens was Tommy's guitar player on all those Capitol hits of his.
R.I.P. Tommy.

Tommy Collins was one of the early pioneers of the Bakersfield/west coast sound. He will be greatly missed. This is an article from about 3 years ago.

I am so saddened by Tommie's passing.
I played for Tommy one weekend years ago.
He was so nice and decent that I've never forgotten him.I think that maybe he was too
nice to make it in the business.I'll never
forget him singing "HIGH ON A HILLTOP"

This is sad news ,I met Tommy early sixties in LA.One of the West Coast Legends,to us as we grew up in Calif. He was into preaching for a while I lost track . A real friendly nice person. RIP

I guess that Lennard pretty well says it all. I hope in the end Tommy was at peace with God, family and friends.

My condolences to his family and of course to the musicians who knew him well.

Probably, like many others here on the Forum, I had the privelage of playing steel for Tommy, several times. I always enjoyed his show onstage, and his down-to-earth personality offstage. What a truly great and under recognized talent!! I am very saddened by the news of his passing. I hope he has found the peace that he searched for, so hard in this world. May He Rest In Peace!!
