After 37 years of publication, MCN is closing their doors. They are still hoping to find a buyer, but as of the Feb. issue they are out of business. The circulation was around 49,000. I feel the pain. Faron is probavly rolling over in his grave. Pat

Word came on Tuesday that Music City news is ceasing publication with the February issue.
Staffers will be out by Friday. I guess circulation of 49,000 for a monthly is s burden to Gannett. Meanwhile TNN and Country Weekly annonced plans for their awards show Thursday June 15.

Maybe a few of those 49,000 readers will now subscribe to SGW...that would make Russ happy!
From my own point of view, they did little to promote "Music City News", and you only get out what you put in. |

Considering 1963 was before the days of satelights etc, MCN might have been one of the first country magazenes fans could afford.
Not many folks would buy Cashbox and Billboard

Janice,
I have been getting MCN for twenty years and had no idea they were close to "death"! I never read anything in the magazine that led me to believe that they were going away, not even in the last issue(Feb.)
Lisa Stewart must be ready to jump in front of a bus by now! First, TNN yanks "This Week in Country Music" and now she loses this gig. She was doing a good job! They had a good publication. I was shocked to see that TNN dropped their association with MCN for the awards show, but why should I really be shocked at anything TNN does anymore?
Did you see this coming? I would like to hear your comments. Thanks.

Noone knew anything. it came out of the blue on Tuesday.
Makes you wonder how much advertising etc it takes for a paper monthly to survive in an
up to the hour computer envirment.
