8 String pedal steel - WTB

Post by Ian Finlay »

Hey all,

I'm looking for an 8 string pedal steel. I'm not too bothered about number of necks, pedals, knee levers etc. A Fender 400 or 1000 would be great, or whatever else may be interesting too. Any playable condition considered, so cosmetics are not too important. If it's mechanically complete but has electronic "issues" that may be OK too.

I'm in the UK, and can pay by PayPal or electronic funds transfer. If you're not prepared to ship to the UK I have friends in Dallas and New York who may be able to re-ship.

Thanks!

Thanks Basil - I'll give you a buzz later.

For anyone else reading, I'll try to answer your question here too!

Why 8 string? Well, a few reasons. One is that, having tried some 10s I really can't get on with the string spacing. Maybe one day... Also, being into Western Swing, Hillbilly and so on I have never heard anything modern (by which I mean post '50s) with the thick, rich sound I'm after. Maybe there's more out there than I know about though. I'm open to ideas. Even my '50s Stringmaster doesn't quite have it, but it's close on 2 necks (one is a bit thin sounding).

I prefer the look/vibe too, and the speed of changing the changes on a cable instrument is appealing too.

To Armon - I tried to reply to your email, but it bounced back. Do you have any pictures of the 400?
