Jeff, Welcome to the ranks of Leonard T. Zinn fans. I've been one since 1949.
He is a truly fine man and a great musician.
Are tapes available of that performance?

Leonard is first rate. He is definitely a fine player, but more importantly, he is a good-natured human being. I also enjoy visiting with him at the various steel shows, plus he is a marvelous rhythm guitarist who adds a unique touch to any set.

Jeff,

I'm glad you're having a good time at the HSGA Honolulu convention.

LT Zinn is an incredible musician on both steel, pedal and "regular" guitar. Mister Showman too, with a ready smile and an old-time vaudevillian bag of tricks for the stage.

I'll say it again to all my fellow forumites...

The HSGA and Aloha International conventions are wonderfully amazing musical weekends. Excellent inspiring music, non-pedal steel heaven and a family feeling of comaraderie extended to all in attendance.

This years dates:

Aloha International Steel Guitar Club Convention
Winchester, Indiana (near Muncie)
July 10-12, 2003

HSGA Joliet Convention
Joliet, Illinois (near Chicago)
October 2-4, 2003
Holiday Inn Express

Does anybody know what that double neck 8 stringer Mr Zinn is playing in those two pictures might be? Looks custom made? Thanks

It's an Epiphone. Pretty much factory stock I'm sure.

I've stood next to that guitar on many occasions. It's in great shape (so is LT) .

The fret markers are raised multi-colored what-look-like reinstones. I've seen these on other Epiphone steels as well.

LT's bar is one of those big white zirconium jobbies that were available by special order a few years ago. I think the closest thing to it today is a Red Rajah or Black Phoenix.

I have known Mr LT Zinn for only a few years. He is truly the nicest person I have ever met. I just have one question for Evelyn - - Q: Since I know LT drives everywhere he goes (instead of flying) how is he getting back so quickly? Can he play "Row Row Row Your Boat ...?" Skip

L.T. Zinn is one of the finest human beings I've ever known. I've never seen him without a smile. He is a great steel player and in my opinion should be in the steel guitar hall of fame (St. Louis). It was Hawaiian steel guitar that made my wife fall in love with steel guitar music when she was just a little girl. This steel guitar player is sure glad she did....Congrats L.T. you deserve all the wonderful comments.
Your friend, Sonny

FYI...to those that don't know, Leonard plays great Western Swing in the style of Murphy, Boggs, Remington, etc. He was the steeler for the famous 101 Ranch Hands (I think that is the name) out of York, Pa. during and after the war years of WWII. He has undoubtedly paid his dues. Great guy and performer/artist.

You were close. It was the 101 Ranch Boys, if I remember correctly. I used to listen to them when I was a kid. I think they were on the radio every Sat. morning.

Happy pickin'

Count me in as a BIG FAN of LT, both as a person and a musician.

Music comes from the heart. That explains why LT's music is so wonderful.

For PSG he plays an old MSA S-10 - E9, but you'd swear some of the songs are on a C6.
They're not!

His "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" CD has both excellent PSG and Lap Steel.

It's such a joy to be in the presence of L.T. He can always put a smile on your face! He played his "A Love Song to Hawaii" for us....what a beautiful song!

Ask him sometime to tell you the really neat story about how he got his guitar. And that bar he has was the 4th one made!

By the way, you guys should have heard Jeff Au Hoy play! He dazzled us at the convention and over at Auntia Genoa's on Thursday night. He can sure slap a stand up bass, too!

Welcome to the HSGA, Jeff!

Joey, thanks for the link to Scotty's for
Leonard's music.
As I posted above, anyone interested in his music may call him directly at 231 777 1339 of write him at 1890 Carriage Rd Suite 210 Muskegon Michigan 49442
As for the 101 Ranch Boys only L T and Smoky Roberts remain of the original group. Smoky lives in Lancaster, PA and is an undersea photographer. What stories he has to tell!!
L T has a tape of those guys for sale listed at Scotty's site called, Remembering.
They were on A B C Radio coast to coast every Saturday at noon out of York Pa.
These fellows actually did 7 live radio shows each week out of York, from A B C Radio and Mutual Radio Stations.
They were a HOT band on the east coast and were really well known there. I was born in that area and listened to them a lot on radio, live or by their recordings. When I was 16 years of age I moved to MI and when I needed a fix from home I caught them on the live A B C broadcast on Saturdays. So they are a nice part of my life. I then met L T at Scotty's in St Louis and the rest is history. Evelyn

I have L.T.'s CD on the way from Scotty.
With Tom Morrill's swing CD too.
Should be an interesting counterpoint.
Hope LT had a great trip... I'm SURE he's still smilin'

LT.ZINN, What can you say that hasn't been said. The President of our Michigan Steel Guitar Club.

Leonard is just a fanatastic, warm human being and a great musician.

When I first met him, I said to myself , "is he for real". Well He Is! He is in the Michigan Hall of Fame.

Now , Scotty, how about putting LT in your HOF club? ....al

I met LT in Manhattan Kansas when I was in the military, in 1952. He and the 101 Ranch Boys were playing at a theater there. Those guys wore western cowboy outfits, with REAL six shooters!! Leonard has some good stories about that, because they used blanks in them and shot into the air during the performance!!!
Leonards Epiphone is a 1938 model, and has a 10 string pickup under the 8 strings, with two poles on each side of each string, which sounds great.
When he and Duke Ching get together at the conventions here, anything is liable to happen, they are the comedy team.

Bill, that pickup information sounds real interesting. What would be a good CD to pick up that has Mr Zinn playing that Epiphone with the 10 stringer pickup? Are there other well known steel players who also use such a setup? Thanks...
