Sierra "Crown Artist's Choice" S-10, 3 + 4

Post by Al Gershen »

Hi SGF:

I helping my steeler friend, Johnny "Mac" Brown of Grants Pass, Oregon, sell his 1988 Sierra "Crown Artist's Choice" S-10, 3+4 pedal steel guitar.

The guitar and case are in excellent condition.

Here are some photos:

I have more photos on my Charter website at the URL:

http://webpages.charter.net...

Also, I've scanned the original Sierra brochure that contains lots of information about this fine instrument:

Here's some information about the guitar: Sierra model number SCO-10; finish is burl wood; 3 pedals and 4 knee lever tuned to the E-9th; folding legs, triple range pickups; padded arm rest that's removed when putting the guitar in the case; gearless tuner; 25" string length; case; and owner's manual.

Johnny "Mac" Brown is asking $1,600 plus reimbursement of actual shipping materials, insurance and shipping expense.

If you have any question, please email me at aldg01@gmail.com or telephone Johnny (He's not online) at (541) 472-0564.

This is a very good instrument with great tone and smooth pedal/knee lever action for a very serious steel guitar player. Don't miss out on this one!

Hi group:

I received one offer for $1,250 by email for this guitar.

Is this a fair price?

Hi Al ,I talked to Tom With Sierra Steels and he said they no longer make the crown Discontinued in 1991 and he dosen't have parts for the crown or the Artist's Pro I the Mecanics on the Sierra remind me of airplane Technology the precision metal on the Undercarriage .most todays's Guitars for Example Carter's S10 are standard with 5 knee levers .The only one to upgrade this for it to look and work right would be Sierra .for about $1895 you can buy a brand new Carter S10 CArter just sold a used guitar only 4 years old S10 with 5knees and 4 pedals ! for only $1345.00 . This Guitar is nice but its 17 years old . There Are also Nice collector's S10 string Shobuds selling on here for $1000. to $1250. range thanks Al please ask your friend if he will consider negotiating some .It would be Great If Sierra made parts for this guitar Still .Being the case I would already made a deal .. Thanks aLot , MArk

Mark, if this guitar is not for you, I understand. But to the credit of Sierra instruments and in particular the "Crown" series guitar, a better built or designed guitar you won't find. Seventeen years is nothing for a Sierra "Crown" guitar. I owned a Sierra Crown S14 with 8p/7k for eleven years. It was a 1983 guitar and I bought it used in 1993 and played it until 2003 (I sold it last November). From 1998 to 2003 I averaged 175 to 200 stage performances a year with that guitar. The gigs ranged from bar gigs to arena gigs. The guitar traveled in my car, on a tour bus, by plane. Even on a cruise ship! You know what? It played well out of the box every single time. The number of times I had to tinker with the undercarriage (adjustments, etc.) on that guitar I can count on one hand and have five fingers left over.

About a week ago I had an e-mail coversation with the person I sold it to. The Sierra is still playing well right out of the box. The owner want's to buy a second guitar, but he's keeping the Sierra as his main instrument.

From my experience, Sierra guitars aren't as popular as some other brands. But I suspect someone will think $1600 plus shipping costs is very reasonable for this great guitar. If Mr. Brown is patient it will happen.

Keep on pickin'!

Hi Mark Sheppeard:

I believe that my friend, Johnny Mac Brown, has sold the Sierra pedal steel guitar to another person who contacted him by telephone.

I agree with Glenn Suchan's comments about the durability of this model Sierra pedal steel guitar. When you look at the workmanship present in this guitar, you realize that this is really a very special instrument.

Mark...good luck locating another instrument. There's lots of them out there...just shop carefully.
