Marlen D-10 F/S or Trade

I have been bitten by that pesky "Shobud bug", and so I have decided to sell the Marlen D-10. It is a 1976 model laquer, it is an 8 X 4. RKL drops your E's. I don't know how to set up a link, but if you will do a search under "Pedal Steel", Marlen D-10, "My tribute to Leonard Stadler" May 5, 2003, you will get the story on what this guitar is all about. It was refurbished by Ricky Davis, (who might repost the pics under this new topic). I am selling this fine guitar for $2000 + shipping. I will entertain reasonable offers. I would also trade for an older era Shobud "The Professional", Pro, or Pro II. I really want another D-10. I bought that guitar for myself.I also bought the best pick ups and tuners for this guitar I could get.I sent it to Ricky for the restoration and set up.I had an awesome instrument.Then...I had to come up with a down payment for my FedEx truck so...you guessed right...I had to sell...`74 Emmons fat back restored by Jeff Petterson in like new condition and my `76 Marlen restored by Ricky and in like new condition.Two guitars I wanted to keep forever.Well,my truck made a lots of cash for me so I can`t say it was a bad move but I would have never sold this guitars if I didn`t have to<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_9.gif' alt='Sobbing' border=0></a>.If I didn`t have one new Promat and another one on the way I would have bought Marlen back in the heartbeat.I`m suprised to see this guitar back on the market.If someone is looking for a very rare,beautiful and great sounding vintage instrument for a more than a fair price..this is it.You wont find another one like this.Till this day I listen my wife saying how beautiful and great sounding this guitar was.

Mark, I have 14 horses that mow my yard. Wash my truck? NAWWW, I just go get another one when it's dirty enough to start looking like mo-bile real-estate. The BMI?? It's short one neck, and besides, it doesn't look shobud enough! HA! Yeah, this Marlen is almost purty enough to eat, right? looks like candy!
How about financing? I'll take a baloon payment of 100% as soon as the mail runs!!

That guitar looks like a museum piece. I definitely couldn't be dragging that thing out to clubs, and have some drunk trip over it. I might fool around and get mad over that! That thing should be on disply somewhere. VERY NICE sir, wish I could take it off your hands. You shouldn't have any trouble moving it.

Scott; Leonard Stadler patent All-pull Triple Raise/Triple lower, didn't come out on his Marlen until around 1980(give or take a year). This Marlen pictured above is a single finger pull-release system(similar to a push pull) and one of the most wonderful sounding pedal steels I've ever heard(sounds completely in-between a Sho~bud and push-pull Emmons).

Mark, Beauty is lacquer deep, this guitar is a fine working instrument, and it's equally beautiful tone needs to be shared with the world! If some drunk trips over it, weeellll, just do what you gotta do, and just show a picture of this guitar to the judge and You'll get off!!! Those old Marlens are as pretty a steel guitar as was ever built, aren't they? The tone is incredible as well. A little weird to change the setup, but it can be done. I'd buy this thing in a heartbeat, if I had any money

Hey James,
I own the turquoise and coffee Speedy West Marlen that used to belong to Joe Comacho, also redun by Ricky. I almost sold it recently to buy a U-12, but played it for a weekend just couldn't do it. These Marlens sing like angels. Good luck with the sale, but as a fellow owner, I will side with the group who says "you'll be sorry".

Stephan, It's a little weird at first until you get the hang of it, then it's a piece of cake---like learning any other brand of guitar.

Can the LKR be tuned to G easily as opposed to G#? I like those Ralph Mooney 7ths when the A&B pedals are engaged...

I originally wrote a post here begging James to reconsider selling/trading this Marlen, like so many others already have, but upon further reflection...

What I was really worried about is that Smiley was the cause of the refirb. LOL

Beautiful guitar, and since Smiley left those licks on it, well, that is a pretty good selling point.

this is an awesome instrument.Is it simple to work on?Not really.Is it heavy?Yeah.Is it a high tech?Nope.But what it is,it is a beautiful vintage instrument with a beautiful tone.No it`s not a Zum or Fessy or Emmons but it has its own charm and beauty of an old rare vintage guitar.

Grant the answer to your question is YES; just a couple turns on the stop screw to stop the note at G and that's all...
Thanks Jim; and yes folks, James is a grown man that is able to make his own decisions and nobody knows if he regrets something or not; only he knows. I got a ton of emails about "you'll regret it" when I sold my "Blue Darlin" Fulawka and the answer is still NO I do not regret selling it. It is a wonderful wonderful instrument as this Marlen is too...but a steel guitar is a Tool and sometimes you need the tool and sometimes you don't.
