Mosrite Ventures Model Bass 1965

I bought this new in Bakersfield in '65 and played it extensively on TV, radio, concerts. It has quite a history behind it.

It was orginally a sunburst, but I took it to the Mosrite factory in Bakersfield in 65 and Semie Mosely customized it for me. We changed out the tuners to the newer ones, changed the paint to sparkle blue.

I recently replaced the tuners with the same one's. This thing is like new, a couple of small dings in it from daily use, but it still looks great. Tiny area of checking in the finish, but not noticeable without looking closely.

New RotoSound strings just installed. Comes with original Mosrite case, and the latches still do work. It's in good shape.

I swore I'd never sell this bass, but I've got a hankering for a new GFI S10 keyless.

How much? Well let's start at $2000 OBO. If it's reasonable, I may take it.

I played a Mosrite Ventures Model Bass for a year, in 67, playing in a New Orleans style Dixieland band.

This thing is fun to play, the neck is typical of Mosrite's...FAST! Wish I still had the Fender Bassman I bought new along with it. These day's I occasionally plug it into my Ampeg and it still is fast and sounds great. I just can't bring myself to take it out on a job when I play bass, so drag along my OLP 5 string for that stuff.

$2000 does seem like a lot for it, but I've seen others in not nearly as good of condition as mine for more. I've used this to backup Roger Miller once, Dottie West, and many others when they came through Bakersfield to do a show and came on the TV show I played on. It's played rock and almost ended up on tour in Europe with the Doors back in 68. I was still in high school and the parents said NO.

It certainly has a history behind it.

Jack,

It was hard to go back to playing a Fender after the Mosrite wasn't it? I couldn't stand my Jazz Bass or playing a Precision after I bought this. Mosrite's are just to fun and easy to play.

I know he owns a recording studio there but I dont know the name of the studio. My dad is a friend of his and said that Mark is looking for clean Mosrite instruments. Good luck, Randy

Daryl,

The one I played seemed to have a small neck, almost like the Gretsch PX6120 guitar I had, rather than the larger bass necks.

The Bass wasn't mine but I had use of it any time I wanted (not a bad deal).

I went back to country and lead guitar (and later to pedal steel) after the year in the Dixieland band. I got tired of playing 99% in Bb.
