I'd like to be able to do it all by computer. Which would be best, table edit
or word pad? Do, I download one or the other, or is it software that I already have on my computer? Ain't I smart?

I'm on a Mac, and I use TextEdit, which is a basic word processor. Works just fine.

A program called "Notepad" comes standard with Windows. Usually found by clicking Start>Programs>Accessories.

You can also use Word or another word processing program IF you change the font to something like Courier, which spaces all characters the same (like the way this section of the forum is formatted).

I believe there are some specialized programs for creating TAB, but I haven't tried any.

Courier is the font that I use, for that very reason.

If you want to use a computer you need to be computer literate and you need to invest a considerable amount of time and effort to learn the software.
Otherwise you can use a pencil and the Free Blank Tab Sheets available right here in this section.

Well, that knocks that little idea out of the picture!
Guess I better stick with a pencil.

I have notepad on my computer. What do I need to do besides opening up notepad and
typing the UBB code before and after my tab?
Will this let me post my tab on the forum, or is there a lot more to it?

You could always write it out by hand and then scan it.

Hadn't thought of that. That should work. If I can just talk my wife into buying that $45.00 cable that goes from my scanner to my printer.

Last year, I created a font to use in tablature in some pedal steel books I'm writing. I use the font in a spreadsheet.

I wanted my tab to have the Newman look. I think his were all hand-written. So I have a font that looks hand-written. But as a font, it's scalable. And on the computer, I can make any changes that the tab requires rather than having the rewrite an entire page by hand.
